are there pins to hold the arms open, say if you were on a hill? I'd hate to have those crash into me.

no there isnt. but there are some BIG ASS bolts that you can tighten to make it harder to close, but they seem tight enough that they wouldnt move on a hill. probably would on a steep incline but not just on hills

Can you take a close up pic of the hinges? One of my needs(as I have children) is the ability to lock them open so I won't have to worry about it closing in on one of them.
