zach_attack - I'm also from Pittsburgh. Do you know of any garages in this area that will help with mods e.g. skid plates, bumpers, lights....

thanks
dan
I'll help you out buddy. You don't need that many tools to do most jobs and if you're willing to learn I'm happy to help.

ProTrucks in Murrysville will do a lot of stuff for you but you're gonna pay big $$$$$ for it. Not worth it IMHO.

I thought stock GVW was 5200 ?
The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), or gross vehicle mass (GVM) is the maximum operating weight/mass of a vehicle as specified by the manufacturer including the vehicle's chassis, body, engine, engine fluids, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers and cargo but excluding that of any trailers.
I thought it seemed light as well. Its a reputable company with a functional scale. Maybe I'll take it to CAT to see what theirs says. There is a CAT 5 minutes from my house.

our dry weight was advertised as something like 4400 lbs. 4800 sounds right to me. GVM is not curb weight, it is the gross weight of what the x is technically rated for including passengers and gear.

Weighed my X today at PSC metals in Slippery Rock...

4800 lbs

Thats with a half tank of gas, all stock as far as armor/bumpers are concerned

The Gross Vehicle Weight is 5,200# for a 2WD Xterra and 5,400# for 4WD.

The curb weights, i.e., actual weight (fluids, fuel, but no passengers or gear) for 4WD Xterras are:

S MT - 4,290#
S AT - 4,308#

OR/Pro-4X MT - 4,375#
OR/Pro-4X AT - 4,382#

"SE" AT - 4,350#

(Weights listed are for the 2005 model year, but other years are similar.)

See, e.g.: 2005 Nissan Xterra Specifications | Nissanhelp.com

Difference Between Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) and Curb Weight:

. . . Curb weight is the weight of the vehicle minus any passengers or cargo. ... It still has all the necessary equipment and fuel but doesn't have any added weight that isn't built into the car. The gross vehicle weight (GVW) refers to the car's total weight when it has added passengers and cargo.

Maybe we can all get together and do a few things! I've got some new hood struts coming and want to do a catch can (and maybe a light bar) as well.

I highly recommend the catch can. I gained a solid 1mpg from it

OR/Pro-4X MT - 4,375#
So,
4,375# of truck
+ 60# of gas (1/2 tank [10gal] @ 6lb/gal)
+ 187# of Zach
+ 150# of gear/add ons (chains, subwoofer, AAL, etc)
________
4,772#

I must have 28 lbs of mud caked underneath. Sounds about right.

That "unaccounted for" weight may be easier to trace than you think. For example, your tires are heavier than OEM P-rated tires and likely weigh 40# more than stock for the set. Since manufacturers typically fudge the numbers, I would say 4,800# is what you should have expected at the scale.

@ChrisHaynesUSA's rig on the other hand, at 6,320#, is so far over the factory curb weight of 4,382# (1,938# over!) that it should probably be re-named Charles Barkley.

So before I titan swap, I want to have the following done:

1. Rear bumper w/ tire carrier
2. Body lift
3. Skid plates
4. Front bumper

Due to funding I can't do all of these at once. I'm looking at 6 months between each.

Would this be the best order to do these? For instance, sliders need to be after the body lift because I want to see everything underneath easier, but rear bumper needs to be first because I don't really want to drill/grind my bumper.

. . . Would this be the best order to do these. . . ?
1. Skidplates/sliders
2. Body Lift
3. Bumpers

If I had to spread these modifications over an extended period, I would look for a set of used sliders at a good price and do those and skidplates right away, then save enough money to do the rest at the same time (selling the first set of sliders in favor of a new set made for a body lifted Xterra). My rationale is that undercarriage/rocker protection is necessary for an Xterra used offroad while the other items are "nice to have."

That is solid logic. But then do I fork out the money for bumper brackets or just deal with the gap for a while?

I don't know about others, but ShrockWorks front bumpers come with mounting plates that are already adjustable for a 2" body lift, and so does the MaxGear rear bumper.

After being green with envy at everyone buy shrockworks parts this weekend, I decided to put in my order for some sliders at Hardcore Offroad. They are right up the road from my camp and you can't beat their prices.

The sliders come standard with dimple plating on top that says "HARDCORE" but I asked them to change this to say "XTERRA" and they were happy to do so. I feel bad for not promoting their company, I just prefer to avoid having words and stickers on my vehicles, especially the ones that make me look like a bro.

Best part: Cory says I should be able to pick it up next weekend. Talk about turnaround time. If everything goes smoothly with this buy I will certainly be getting my front bumper from them down the road.

In other news, I'm waiting for my front recovery points to get done at my friend's fab shop.

Congrats! I felt a little odd about the Hardcore logo as well on my bumper haha. I was worried people wouldn't realize that it was an fabrication company and instead think I just wanted to be "Hardcore". Good call on the logo change.

They are still my favorite fab company simply because of their turnaround time, customer service, and price, even if their parts may have a few minor flaws (my drivers' side shackle is crooked in my front bumper, some people say the rear-bumper bracing is not strong enough, etc.).

You're like the most hardcore bro on this site, bro.

They didn't even upcharge for the lettering change. I'm so happy they are so close to me too. This company is gonna save [cost] me a lot of $$$
