So, I got sick of the embarrassing sound from the OEM Horn and decided it was time to Upgrade to something with a little more Balls.

I went shopping and found this PIAA Dual Tone Sports Horn at 4x4parts.com. Let the record show the only reason I was shopping there was because I won a gift certificate to that site this summer.

You can find the Horn here.

So, install is a piece of cake. Trust me.

First, remove the Stock Grill by removing the 6 Black Clips on top and the 4 Clips inside, just below the Radiator.

Now you will see the Stock POS Horn attached by a single bolt to the center and two separate Wires connected by two Metal Contacts. Remove the two Wires and Horn.

Now, using the Bracket provided with the PIAA Horn Kit attach the two PIAA Horns to both ends of the Bracket and reattached it to the Truck with the Stock bolt off the OEM Horn.

You'll need to two Blue Wire Taps to splice the original Wire into two for both Horns. To get a clean area to put the Wire Tap peel back the Electrical Tape from the OEM Wire and expose the bare Wire.

Cut off the ends of the two Wires provided with the PIAA Horns Kit. These two with be spliced into the original Wires.
You'll end up with these left over parts.

The Taps should look like this.

Now, just attach the other ends to the 2nd Horn.

Now, test it to make sure it works.

Put the Grill back on and congrats, you are all done.

View from the top.

One says 500mhz and other says 600mhz They are measurements of audio wave frequencies. The higher the number, the higher the frequency of sound. Changing the frequency will change the tone of the horn.

PIAA sells another kit with a 400mhz and 500mhz set.

Nice write up

As long as I do the work after Hrs my boss is pretty cool about letting me use the shop. He also doesn't mind me having Mod Days there as well.

Just an FYI - I have the Hella Supertone Horns in my X. Part # HL85115

The horn tones are 300hz / 500hz and the output is 118db

Here is a sound clip I found on YT.

Install is the same as Steve just that I'm a Hella Guy even though PIAAs makes nice stuff.

Hey Stephen, quick question: I have an '05 also and see that stock horn is facing down but you installed the new ones facing sideways. Any particular reason or just for looks? I am thinking that having them face down would be the best way to go in terms of letting the mud and water and crap drain out once you go through one too many wet trails. I guess sideways is still better than facing UP, but am I off about facing down, do you think (anyone)?
