What is Your Touch-up Paint of Choice?

Yes I've searched; no, I didn't find the answer to my particular question.

Its time for a complete detail again, and this time I want to address some of the small chips and two small shopping cart dings that bother me every time I see them.

Since none of the local auto parts stores carry touch up paint that matches my '05 Xterra Off Road (Red Brawn, #A-15), I'll need to order online.

So my questions are:

What type of touch up paint do you prefer (paint pen, brush on, spear on, aerosol, etc.)?

Particular brand?

Particular supplier (Nissan dealer, online supplier, chain store, etc)?

Thanks for your input.

I needed a rattle can for mine, so I ended up buying it off of expresspaint.com. If i remember correctly, they have many different options for containers- as small as paint pens, as large as gallons. Definitely happy with it- no issues and matches perfect. My car is EAF (lava red)

I may have copied a post that lists that color number. If so, I'll send it to you.

In the meantime, let's try to keep this thread on topic, i.e.:

The touch ups I need are all very small. Too small for an aerosol can.

I've never had great success with the touch up pens, but I may go with one from the local Nissan dealer if I can't find a better way.

I'm intrigued by the "dab, smear, blend" method advocated by this website, but don't know anyone who has actually tried it.

Anyone?

I am also having difficulty finding touch up paint.

Metallic Green color code is JAH. I called a couple Nissan dealers to see if they had it in stock and they both said "Oh, our system doesn't even recognize that color code".

Car paint suppliers will sell me a pint for $100 but that is WAY more than I could possibly need. Any advice? I am trying to fix this chip on my rear fender:

@AlbatrossCafe pull dent, sand, primer, cover with rhinoliner.
Man it's WAY too soon for that... I've not even had this thing for a year. I have to at least try to keep it nice. Although at this rate it is bound to look up like this by 2020:

Nail polish! Had some rock chips and wanted something fast. Went into a Walgreens
and the chick behind the counter was super helpful, even let me take several colors
out to "match". Told me my choice would dry a little darker and it looks pretty good.
Been on for 6 months, now...holding up well.

Did you try Brian at Cherry Hill Nissan. PM @Jerseyparts, give him the part number, and ask if he can get it for you. I had to order the Nissan touch up paint for mine - it took 3 or 4 days for it to get to my local Dealer's parts counter.

Part of your problem may be that there are many Infinitis that use that color but few Xterras. You might have better luck trying to look it up as if you were purchasing for an Infiniti.

Soliciting any more advice for fixing some rock chips on the front and lower doors that are showing a bit of rust. I am down to deciding between Dr. Colorchip ($40), Touch-up direct ($30 with clear coat), and Nissan OEM paint pens ($21 from dealership).

I plan to do a thorough job of prepping first. A few spots are down to bare metal, but none more than 1-2 mm in size.

Is it best to put a layer of clear coat over the OEM pain pen, or is it just fine by itself? Is it best to put primer on too?

Honestly, Nissan didn't have it together with their paint. I came to this thread hoping to find solutions for metallic pop green. Only 1 dealer anywhere near me and they don't have it and likely won't get it!

I noticed that the rail gutters on my roof are flaking/splintered and this isn't due to abuse. Nissan seemed to really cheap out on the paint. I also have small ~5mm chipping on my B pillars. Again, this truck is about in perfect condition, no reason for this.

This has been my only complaint with my 2011 so far.
