This last one also shows up although I dont recommend it since it has metal components and the weight will cause more vibrations up high.

Anybody know where to get the best price on the snorkle setup?
I think 4x4 Parts is going to be your best bet. I just shopped around and found that they had the best price. Secondly, no one had stock and no matter where I went, I would have to back order. 4x4 Parts is the North American distributor for Airflow, which I believe is the only game in left in town for Xterra snorkels. Since they control the supply of snorkels to everyone else, they get stock earlier than anyone else.

I have my volant and snorkel ordered. Woot.

I found these youtube videos helpful:

installing volant, reversing horn for it to fit

installing snorkel.

I will be doing the install with a friend. What type of silicon sealant (or other sealant) should be used for drilling in the A bar and also for sealing the snorkel insert to the Volant? I do want this to be airtight and hold over time and bumps!

Any thoughts or suggestions or words of wisdom, tips and tricks greatly appreciated! First-hand experience ideal!

This is the older volant model, without the hole...

So a fella with a frontier fixed an aussie style stainless steel unit to his truck, wondering what the group's thoughts are on it fitting an xterra?

Here's the link to his build:

Appears to be one of these units:

I mean the frontier intake should be in the same place as ours, so it would just be a matter of fitting it to the fender cleanly. I'm assuming the A pillar angle etc is the same?

Actually got in touch with the owner of the frontier, and it turns out it was a fair amount of custom work...

Have heard of people making some decent DIY snorkels from these kits:

My biggest gripe about the airflow snorkel is the large head on it. I bushwack alot of tight overgrown trails, and will guarantee that thing gets ripped off at some point.

Some members have changed their airflow snorkel head to a Dobinsons rectangular model, number SN80-085.

I personally prefer the look.

As an FYI, I just got this pre filter kit and it fits perfectly.

I really enjoy Ronny Dahl's videos. I no small part, I am doing this stuff because I started watching his content.

I finally got around to making a bush wire to protect my snorkel. I made one for the passenger side too, but after getting it on I don't think there is much point to it. There isn't much on the pax side for a tree limb to snag onto. Protecting my snorkel and radio antenna are the main points.

I bought the airaid build your own 3.5" intake kit and built the rest using construction materials. I made the airbox with 1/8" thick ABS plastic sheets, angle
aluminum

and sheet metal from a microwave I tossed. I wrapped both the intake and airbox with heat reflective tape for chimneys rated to 600 degrees. The tape was super annoying to work with and didnt come out as smooth as id liked it to, but getting a CAI and snorkel for under $140 I can't complain.

Lots of action in the snorkel world this week.

Z1 released theirs that is about same cost as the airflow 399.99 plus shipping: Z1 Snorkel

Offroad Gorilla had been hinting for a while they'd release their own low cost version. Everyone expected it(at least I did) to be the 'alibaba' Airflow knockoff one and it appears it likely is...but he's imported a batch of them and they are cheap and will be reviewed on Ry the Car guy by mid September for a view on how they fit. Gorilla Snorkel $175 and that includes shipping. Gorilla claims they are the same just took out Airflow and went to manufacturer...which could be the case...but regardless, 2 more options for a truck that's approaching 10 yrs out of production.

I'm ecstatic new options are still appearing when many are abandoning support of these old rigs(hats off to Z1 and Offroad Gorilla for doing something new and continuing to support these rigs) as their value drops and people look at a 3-5k dollar rig and say 'I ain't spending 500 on that thing which dries up demand and suppliers fade away or move on to new shiny like Broncos or new Frontiers.

Does anybody know if the gorilla snorkel is compatible with the Volant intake? I'd imagine if it's just a "copy" of the airflow, then the adapter would fit either or. I checked their website and it only mentioned the stock airbox.
