My honda would do this after cruising for a minute and letting off the throttle. I never could figure it out. It doesn't really cause a problem so I just said to heck with it. I noticed that my X does it too, once again not a problem so no worries on my end.

This happens when you take your foot off of the gas?

From the video, I think that is normal. I believe its a combination of the transmission downshifting to find the right gear for your speed, and the ECM taking control over the throttle in order to keep the revs around 1200 rpm or so for emmissions control while the engine is compression loaded. If I remember correctly, compression loading on an engine results in rich emmissions unless the throttle is cracked open slightly, and 1200 rpm was about the magic number for lowest emissions. Putting on a Volant intake, you may see this automatic system response be a bit excessive due to the change you made to the system without it being accounted for in the emmissions control programing.

Just a theory.

Although not completely related, my Maxima does this w/ intake/exhaust/flywheel etc.

I'm guessing its the mods that have caused this. Mine even stalls on occasion dropping from 4K after I push the clutch in.

People on here have had it happen completely stock. I've taken my system back to completely stock with the same results as well. Still not sure if this normal or not. By the amount of people that seem to be experiencing this I would lean towards normal behavior, but I also know many of us had this start happening recently and it was not noticeable before. I'm still ??? about it.

I would honestly say it normal. Look at the amount of people it happening to (including me). You prob just never noticed it before. Put it this way, when yoiu drive a M/T your RPM's are high cause your high in the gear, you let of the gas and push the clutch in and the rpms drop. Once you have selected the next gear and let the clutch out the RPM's com back up. I only noticed this when I was on the gas and then let off.

This place is great but it really makes us over think things, A LOT. I was out playing on some trails by my GF's house while she was at work and I thought I blew my front diff, b/c I was in the postion where the left wheel wasnt spinning (on a rock) and the right was (was told this was the easiest way to blow one). It made a different noise. No clunking or clicking or anything like that. I flipped out and go so nervous and almost had a stroke. Needless to say I went on wheeled my way out over some pretty cool slick rock in 4LO and had no further issues. Not to mention the 65 mile ride one the highway home without a problem.

So whats the moral of this long winded story. Just relax, we are getting to hung up on things.

Its just like Pat Rogers said once "We need to get over the romance of aligning sights and get to the business of shooting smelly bearded men in the face more efficiently."

Yes,

I was starting to come to the conclusion we were starting to over-think this. Unless anything new happens I would say I am ready to let this one rest...at least for a littel bit :)

Dont trust the stealership, Half the time the charge you the money and pretend to fix your car, but really do not do a thing except put it in the bay, put on lift, look at underside, lower it and drive it out to you. Im not sure about nissan here but I know certain VW dealerships practice this near me in MD.

They are so overpriced with repairs as well that I can't believe anyone would go after the warenty runs out, Its like going to an NFL game and buying 15 dollar beers when you could get them for 2.00 anywhere else, same product...

I installed a volant last week and yesterday I noticed a pronounced tach bounce....it is not how it acted stock and it does it all the time now. I have only 3500 miles so its pretty new

i think it's something that goes away w/ time. mine doesn't do it anymore and i installed mine quite a while ago

I've had the problem after I drove it in water up to the hood..... It throws the service engine light every couple of months. The code is the same every time, throttle body sensor.
You might have actually damaged your throttle body sensor if you were eating water up to that point for a long period of time other than an in and out dive.

yeah, you can't trust ANYBODY but yourself or your friends when it comes to this stuff...or anything else really. It's sad.

owns 2007 Nissan Xterra S but she identifies as a Pro-4x
Has anybody figure this out? Noticing the same thing. Stock as far as I can tell. Noticed it today after cleaning the MAF and resetting my Cat convter codes with a scanner. Do we think it's normal? First automatic I've owned so wasn't sure. When letting off the gas quickly and cruising, rpms drop below 1000 and then bump back up, and just kind of jumpy in general whenever coming to a stop.
