Anyone buy one? My OCD/Inner Nerd wants a temperature readout. What's worked for you guys?

I originally bought an inside / outside display on eBay for around $15. Also had a battery monitor and it fit on the Bluetooth mic panel. It was originally black but I took it apart and painted the body of it with some camouflage model paint that was very close to the color of the overhead console

Eventually the outside temp sensor on it stopped working so I upgraded my rearview mirror to one with the temp display and garage door opener. Got the mirror on eBay, it was removed from an 07 Pathfinder. The sensor came from a junkyard Maxima.

Sorry to stir up an old thread. I just bought that same cheapo unit you first had. I figured worth a try. When you had it where did you put the outside sensor? I've currently got mine in the door jam right next to the leading edge of front door, and Im getting engine heat interference. It just slowly get warmer the longer the car runs.

The problem with the cheap temp sensors is accuracy and response time. I bought a wireless inside/outside one on the cheap and (don't laugh) K-Mart for $12. No matter where I put the outside sensor, it doesn't respond quickly enough and is affected by engine heat or body panel heat. I settled on putting it behind the front grill and it's okay for seeing the outside temp after the vehicle is parked overnight, or after you've been driving for about 15 minutes or so. There's enough airflow to give a decent reading that isn't affected by the radiator once you're moving for a while. The inside temp sensor also suffers from response time. It's WAY too slow to display the actual temps.

I originally put the outside sensor in the wet box. Seemed like a great idea, except that the temps were reading about 5 - 10 degrees higher than they should have been since that black wet box absorbs a lot of heat form the sun...

In the end, like some other people have posted, it's probably a lot better to get a rear view mirror temp sensor.

You can always go the DIY route :)

I am currently integrating mine into the bluetooth module/sunglasses holder. I have also changed the software to do multiple temps (inside, outside, trans in, trans out, etc), implemented an inclinometer, freeze warnings, and some other functions. The hardware from 4D systems has changed slightly, but programming is still the same. I have found some cheaper displays to use as well ($12-20) for this project which I am currently writing software for. rcheli did a nice integration with some stand-alone 3D prints and the BT sunglasses module.

Is that a 3D printed bluetooth faceplate for the overhead console?

Gentex really is the best option... Here is mine with amber display

I almost bought that with a green display. There have been a few on eBay people removed from Frontiers and the new Xs that come with them. Figured if was going to spend the money I might as well get Homelink too for a little more.

Well in my case, it's very common for it to be 40 degrees, and 5 miles away it's 31. My short commute commute home frequently goes from wet rain covered roadways to a sheet of ice in no time. Real time temp is huge for me. My phone won't give me what the temp is outside my car, only a weather station that is unreliable. I live at 2,000 feet, and work only 20 miles away at 900 feet.

Anyone know where/how to find a sensor for this mirror? I was lucky enough to score a electronic mirror with OAT readout from a great member on here. The downside is that it doesn't have the wires or sensor for the OAT. Anyone know where to begin? My current 11' Pro model has an electronic mirror - but obviously no OAT.

There is an e-bay seller (cooper_z71) that is selling a sensor/mirror harness for $39.69. You might contact them to see if they'll just sell the ambient air sensor and wiring. You'll need to verify that the sensor they're selling works with the OEM mirror out of a 2013 pro-4x.

The sensor itself attaches in front of the radiator. Most installations that I have seen have the sensor wiring (2 wires) running down the driver's side and through the firewall at the grommet to the foot well. From there it goes up the pillar into the headliner with the rest of the mirror/dome light wiring.

ETA - Here's a link showing the installation of the GENK50 when the original mirror isn't powered. The connectors are different, but you get the idea. Seems that some have found the sensor wiring already installed and unused so check for the connector in front of the radiator first. http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1405&highlight=gentex
