If you park it on a hill and run it it should (hopefully) push the air out...and it will no longer be full. You have air in your system.

I think you also have to keep the rad cap open and "burp" the air out of the system when you have it parked on the incline. Be warned that you will spill coolant.

 

You probably need to add coolant directly into the radiator if you haven't already (don't be surprised if it takes quite a bit to fill). If you want to run it with the rad cap open, you will need to use something like this:

I don't recommend starting it with just the cap open, either accidentally or on purpose. Don't ask me how I know.

 

It took quite a bit of coolant when I put it directly in the rad. But a soon as I let it run with the cap open, it overflows a lot. And when I put some in it, I saw the overflow tank getting filled!! So as in right now, I really don't know how to "burp" it. But I really think that my thermostat will have to be change...

 

This is a few days old, but it sounds like the radiator cap and pressure relief cap may have been reversed. The pressure relief cap, the one with a spring, goes on the reservoir and the sealing cap goes on the radiator.

With the engine cold (after it's been sitting a while) pop open your hood, open the reservoir tank. Turn your heater on full blast. Start your truck. Go to the front of your vehicle and add fluid to the reservoir tank. When you start it up, you'll notice the level drop. It shouldn't ever go below the minimum fill line on the bottom. You'll probably have to do that a few times to purge the air out.

Edit: You'll want to let it run a few minutes until the engine gets warm and the thermostat opens up.

 

Okay so only open the reserve tank? No squeezing the lines? Would it be better to do this on an incline?

 

Well driving home today I had no heat, no air, no anything coming from any of the vents. Tried adjusting the dials 1-4, cool - warm, direction, and nothing.
Anyone know what da problem is?

 

Blain, I take back my texts....that is something wrong with the blower...or blower resister which was discussed earlier. If NOTHING comes out...its def an electrical/ blower problem.

 

Blower went out or bad resistor maybe. For the air purge park it on incline like other state and try sqeezing the heater core inlet and outlet hoses to help force the air out.

 

If no air is moving, then it sounds like a blower. My '10 xTerra had a blower motor replaced. Electrical problems are also a distinct possibility...

 

Silly question but do I park up the incline or down the incline?

 

You want the radiator cap to be the highest point in the cooling system so park with the front the Xterra up the incline. This forces the air to go to the highest point in the cooling system. And yes sqeeze the cooling hoses this will also move air out, but be careful it may be hot, might need a rag.

 

Heater to full blast while you're at it.

 

my brother was having the same problem with his X and the heat. he ended up replacing the thermostat in his engine.. says it works great now.

 

In my case I had no air flow but the air coming out was hot: blower was replaced under warranty.

I was wondering if OP could be more specific if the issue was heat without air flow or air flow without heat, or god forbid neither?
