DiffLock Code C1187

I recently had my Diff Lock and VDC light flicker and then remain solid. After 10-15 minutes of driving, the Diff Lock light goes out and then the ABS+VDC+Slip lights all remain on. The first time it happened, I had the cruise set at 70mph and everything just lit up.

I did a search on the boards and most information is in the one large "Light" post, but there still seems to be no conclusive answer as to what is the cause.

Today I drove into the Nissan Dealer to show them the lights while they are on so they cannot tell me "we cannot re-create the problem". They could not look at the X today, but one of the Tech's came out to pull the codes.

By the time they read the codes, it was the ABS+VDC+SLIP light configuration. However, the codes that came up were;

C1109 Battery Voltage Abnormal
C1187 DIFLOCK CONT

I did a search on here for either code but nothing came up. Does anyone have any experience with either of these?

It seems to me the DIFFLOCK light starts flickering like there is something weird being sensed. AFter a few minutes of this, the X just shuts down the entire ABS system, therefore showing ABS+VDC+SLIP. Once it goes into that, it stays there until I shut it off. WHen I start it up, the DIFFLOCK and VDC flicker for a minute and then back to the ABS+VDC+SLIP.

I have an appointment in a week.

JNMyer - not sure about the description of the codes. The ones I listed were straight out of the Nissan Tech's code reader. He made a print out (from code reader) for me so when I come back, they already have the codes in case the lights are not on. The descriptions I listed are exactly what is on the print out, word for word.

The dirt on the contacts may be something. I spent the weekend on the trails, nothing major and no hard bangs, but plenty of mud. I did not even turn on my locker all weekend. Maybe I should go spray the undercarrige to see if that fixes it.

Did you ever get this solved? My vdc off light came on a few times while the diff lock light flickered driving down the highway at 75mph. It did this 3 more times lasting anywhere from 1-5 seconds. It also occured while I was at a complete stop. Not sure what is going on and looking for some direction. I'll check my battery, battery cable connection and diff lock wire at the diff I guess. No codes though.

Did you ever get this issue solved? I DO NOT want to go to the dealership. Last tech I dealt with was an idiot telling me all these other issues I had that were not effecting my current issue.

I could use some help on this issue as well. Same symptoms and code in exception to the abnormal voltage. Only code is C1187. Disconnected the control unit(under the dash) cleaned it up and reconnected it. Disconnected the two sets of wires going into the dif and did the same thing. No wires look damaged nothing out of the ordinary. Happened to me just driving down the road at around 45-55mph. Wasn't in 4hi or 4lo and the diff switch was off and VDC was on as normal. No lights on dash. Then the VDC+ABS+SLIP lights came on after the diff and VDC lights flashed sporadically and not consistent. Seems as though its a loose wire. But I can't find a darn thing wrong.

I think the same thing happened to me. I had to brake hard once in a parking lot and all the lights went on. After a day there were still on, but it drove fine so I decided to wait for a convenient time 2 days later to take it into the dealer. Of course when I started it for the drive to the dealer the lights weren't on anymore. That was 4+ months ago with no problems since. Give it a few days and it may reset itself.
