If all goes well I will be adding turn signals to my mirrors this weekend. I haven’t seen other posts about adding them to the mirror, just a couple that have added them to the sides so I will be taking a few pictures of how to do it and where to tap into the turn signals as I go.
Currently trying to decide on which light. I had bought 2 lights to do this a couple years ago on my old truck but lost one of the lights. Found a matching one on eBay and bought it.
But while looking through the seller’s other items I found these.
Smoke colored housing and lights up amber. Bought 2 of these as well for $5.50 each Haven’t put power to them yet to see what they look like but I do like the smoked look on the black mirror.
Added 5-5 after install
First step is removing the door panels. There are a few how-to posts on this already so I won’t go into detail. Once those are off you will need to peel back a section of the white plastic under the door handle, look for a little black tab and depress the edges to push it into the door.
You will then be able to get a better grip on the mirror plug to unplug it.
Remove the 3 nuts that hold the mirror onto the door, make sure you do not drop the nuts into the door. The glass can then be removed from the mirror by pulling on the bottom of the glass to release the clips that secure it to the motor housing.

Signals bolted to mirrors
Running the wires from inside the mirror out is a pain! The channel the wires come into the housing from the fixed part of the folding mirror is very narrow. Took me several tries on each to fish the wires through.
Positive line with a male connector incase mirror needs to be removed in the future.
Now the real fun begins! Running the wires into the doors.
Unplug the 2 connecters for the 2 harnesses that go into the doors then remove the connectors pictured from where they are secured.
Pull the rubber seal out of the door and the body and pull the wires through from the body side so the slack is between the door and body. You can now fish a wire through a little easier, I used a higher gauge wire with electrical tape wrapped around the end to prevent damage. Once through I tapped the wire for the light to the end and pulled it though.
Push the wires back into the door and into the body making sure the seal is seated properly.
To get the signal wire up to the mirror remove the 4 screws holding the door speaker and pull it to the side, speaker is a magnet so you can just stick it on the door. Insert your fish wire into the mirror wire hole, reach into the door, find the 2 wires, tape them together then pull them out of the mirror hole.
Put a connector on the end of that wire, connect the wires and put the mirror back on being careful not to pinch any wires between the door and the mirror.
I chose to ground the signal on one of the mirror bolts.
Tapping the turn signal wires on the passenger side is a little easier than on the driver’s side.
Locate the white connector with 8 wires with the cluster of connectors behind the kick plate, it will be just below the wires that go into the door.
Remove the connector and locate the green wire that is alone on one side with a brown wire and tap it for the right side blinker.
For the left side blinker pull the white box from the floor sill next to the driver’s seat, open it and locate the green wire with silver spots. There are 2 of them that look the same, the one you need is a little thinner than the other one. Not sure what the other one is for but I did look for it in the back and it runs into the hatch.
The tinted one would of looked better on the bottom of the mirror but these are bright and don’t look too bad. They show great in the daylight, just not very well in daylight pictures of them. The same company makes the same lights with a clear housing and amber LEDs, might switch to those if I can get them for a good price.
