Won't Shift Out of 1st when Warmed-up

Hi guys,

I'm an old 1st-gen X fan, but am considering buying a really nice 2005 that has some transmissions problems. According to the owner, it won't shift out of first gear after it warms up.

Any ideas what that could be? I'm trying to gauge whether it's worth the risk.

Thanks for the quick replies.

A local transmission shop surmised it was SMOD, too (over the phone).

It's a 4x4 auto with 135K miles, and I can probably get it for $2K. Should I pass, or is it worth buying to fix?
