** The Dumb Question Thread **

Does anyone have a trick to get better connections on trailer light connectors? I've used both dielectric grease and an anti-oxidizing grease without much success. My connectors are newish (less than a year old) and don't show any corrosion. My enclosed trailer has position lights I can see on the fenders in my mirrors. Sure enough, they often go out. Wiggling the connection gets them burning strong again, but I don't want to be that guy with lights going on and off disgust
Most times it is the grounding between the trailer and tow vehicle that is the "problem". Try running a dedicated ground wire from the tow vehicle to the trailer and see what happens.

What about the first aid kit?

I have a 2013 X but the first aid kit was dated 2007, ten years ago.

Has anyone repurposed the first aid kit bag for something else?
I found a nice first aid kit at teh local drug store (Walgreen's) for $20 and refilled my kit with the new stuff. I figure it is better to have something than to have nothing when you need it.

Obviously you have never run into Guido or Luigi. They use that wrench to make "minor attitude adjustments" when dealing with the Don. ;-)

What does everyone use to clean their tools at the end of the day? .
Clean???

My vehicle is so clean I don't need to clean my tools, they're not dirty.

MY TURN!!! MY TURN!!!

And now for the "Dumb Question of the Day"...
My X has 120k+ miles on it, 2011, and I'm curious how long the shocks will last, or stating another way... when should they be replaced? So far I haven't seen any leaking from them.

I tend to expect logic for why things are designed the way they are.

 :crying:  :crying:

Oh you are funny.
Vehicles and logical design parted ways when the vehicles became smaller. I could climb up under the hood and sit on a wheel well to work on my 55 Pontiac and my friend's 57 Chevy. My 69 Mustang wasn't bad but from there on things really got all crammed up and working on cars became a real chore.

What do you do when waiting for the mail carrier to bring you a package so you can complete a project, only to check the USPS site and get the message that your package has been delayed!?!?!

My order from superbrightleds has been stuck in transferring from UPS to USPS for like a week.
Hmmmm..... my order was shipped via USPS (it was a small order) but still delayed between St. Louis and Colorado Springs. Guess a lot of people are using Priority Mail and first class is being shoved aside.

I think USPS mail is delayed all over. I sent a 2 day priority envelope from WA to AZ almost 4 days ago. Still have not received it and now it is showing the package will be delayed....
Hope you got your money back.

Got my order today. Now if only the OTRATTW package would show up. :crying:

What years did the mirrors and door handles color match the vehicle? I have a white '11 and the mirrors and handles are black. A friend has a red '13 and hers are black. Another friend has a blue '15 Pro 4 and hers are black also.
Tonight I saw a white X and the door handles and mirrors were white. I'm just curious if they came that way from the factory.

It might possibly be the former rig of seXterra. He sold it several years ago but he did live in the Springs area. He had a full white-out treatment going on; bumpers, sliders, etc. All custom. I looked on his old profile but it looks like his pictures have been killed by Photof****t.
I'll have to see if the bumpers et al are white too. I don't thnk it has sliders though. Guess I'll know Sunday when it should be at church.

I wish I went to church with a fellow Xterra owner. Just Jeeps, Jeeps, Jeeps, more Jeeps and big trucks here.

Eh... I guess I'm just one of a kind.
We've got 4 Xterras. :surprise:

Well I got a good look at it tonight. Stock sliders and even the body side moulding is white. Really a different sight to see.

Why do I see so many X back bumpers not centered? The gap between the trim on the drivers side is wider than the passanger side. Annoying, I thought it was just mine but started seeing it on many of them.
Factory design so it will bug you and eventually you'll purchase an aftermarket bumper that looks better and offers more options.

Alright, I don't have a fancy roof rack (or any rack), no bumper and no ladder to mount rotopax. Can I put a regular red jerry can up on a rubber mat on the roof and ratchet strap it down, or is lord going to strike me down?
I think you will find that the vibration will eventually rub through the paint, even though the can is on a rubber mat.

NOW... my question is, How often do you plan to do this? Just once in a while or all the time? How rough are the roads you will be on? There are really too many unknown factors, for me at least, to give a definitive answer. :dontknow:

I got a bit overexcited yesterday and the engine bay has a bit of mud. What’s the best way to clean inside the engine bay?

"Hello power washer!"

Used gently of course so you don't screw up the electronic stuff.
