Are there any Custom Snorkel Designs out there?

One reason I've never installed a snorkel up to this point is how bad some of them look. Just in general, and they all seem to look the same to a degree...I can't be the only one who would want or do a custom setup and thinking of something different.

Pretty much have a design envisioned in my head, but would like to see what else is out there for inspiration...Technical details aside on this, as there are many ways to skin a cat, as they say; talking from the outside view(s).

Yeah, probably wouldn't mess with adapting something from another application...What I mean by all looking the same, is across most all of the different vehicles out there that they make a kit for, where it's a plastic piece/tube coming out, up along A-pillar sort of, then a front opening, just sort of sticking out. Not saying this is bad or anything, just would like to see if there is something more aesthetically pleasing, so to speak, and like it belongs there sort of thing. Hopefully that makes sense...

Thanks, guys for the samples...I like the SS one, as far as looks, except for the top piece (which looks like many of the others) although that'd probably get hot during the summer (or year round here, lol) months. Doubt it'd be more than negligible though, as far as affecting the intake air temp.

The kits you buy seem to be of good quality, it's the look I'm thinking differently on. The problem with our rigs is that the door takes up half of the A-pillar, as far as getting close. However, they do have sealed swivel joints that could possibly do the trick, should you attach to the door <--to keep the tubing real close.

Fiberglass would open up a lot of design possibilities, for sure. I've done some work with that stuff on my Chevelle's hood and an air intake project I started for on my 5.9 (ZJ) back when. I suppose a mold could be made to give it a gelcoat finish.

Sort of thinking of the pick-up along the top of the windshield line...doesn't have to be round, or square. Perhaps spread out the opening all along that part, but thin and pointed downward, to pick up the high pressure from the windshield and also to help drain.

Whatever the case, the hardest part for me would be the commitment. I mean, once it's done, sort of hard to go back unless new fender, etc.

Look up OZ's old build thread. He built a DIY snorkle that wasn't too bad.
Looks good with the white - helps hide it - and overall pretty clean looking. Wondering why he didn't paint the other parts though? least the part coming out of the fender...

Rooney made his own too. It's the best looking diy snorkel I've ever seen.

Clean look! Assuming there are no issues with the door opening/closing, as it looks real close but suppose the 'tangency' of the tube helps clear.

Pretty sharp.

Love stainless steel and the clean aspect of this one, also, other than the top part, as mentioned.

Possibly...they do make flexible paint though, but haven't personally tried it on rubber although it should work just fine.

this has got to be one of the best snorkels I've seen. Haven't asked him where he got it, think he custom modded it from an old 'yota.
That does look good, although it would be nice to get some 'ram air' effect into the intake, so facing forward or downward from a high pressure area would be a benefit.

Speaking of, the cowl area is generally a good high pressure air source for an intake...Sort of thinking maybe that could be high enough for a snorkel?

Be interesting to attach some pressure sensors at different parts of the vehicle, to determine where the best spots may be...I had used the high pressure area from the front tire on my Frontier and that worked really well, but still had some things I'd like to complete on (design-wise).

^^^Not for me, but pretty cool overall. Funny, had a WK Jeep almost just like that one, including the 5.7 Hemi and F/R lockers and that color...It had SD rather than MAF, so much easier to make a custom CAI, etc....fun to change 16 plugs and hated the DoD when it engaged, but otherwise that was a nice ride. Only took it to the mountains once, so never got to test it like I wanted to...Came from a '98 5.9 ZJ a couple vehicles prior and have to say the '98 was better than the '05 I had, especially since it had SFA and that engine was begging to be released (408 stroker, mmm). Sorry for the side story, just reminded me of that Jeep I had.
