Another thought on the window screen:
Buy some screen mesh (similar to what tents use) and cut it an inch or two larger than the window. Use the craft magnets that you buy in rolls to hold the screen to the outside of the window. This allows you to control airflow with the window and if it rains, you just roll the window up since the screen is on the outside.

Although Jimbo's looks pretty nice, I am just too lazy to go to that much effort!

Remember to put an insulating blanket on top of your air mattress. If you don't all that air will suck your body warmth away and you may be in for a long cold night. (That is why thermarests have foam in them...)

Yeah, a lot of people think that because you are off the ground, that an air matress is better than sleeping on the ground. In cold weather, I would never give up my thermarest! A short thermarest fits real nice in the back too.

I have a military surplus mosquito net that covers a cot. It hangs nicely over the backs of the front seats and tiest to the little hangers on the top. Then I just leave the windows down (unless it is raining).

On my last 5K run, my trouble kinda was light passing through the windows, (Who sleeps at night) I had sun shades, the kind you use to keep sun out of windshield, they did OK, but I plan to fashion up something that fits a lot better in all windows. Maybe some black plastic material cut to side and easy to store under rear cargo mat. I think I know where to get a curtain for the rear behind front seats.

I intend to sleep in the back of mine very soon when I go camping. Although I think I will leave the windows shut since it's a balmy 36 degrees out today. Although a couple of swigs from the flask, hope into my sleeping bag and I'll sleep like a baby no matter how cold :drunken:

If I set the front seats up strait the futon mattress fits perfectly in the back. Being 6' 4" I have to sleep diagonally, but that is not a big deal. As for light coming in, it would probably be easiest to just make them out of tick cardboard and attach them to the windows with suction cups.

This is how we sleep in the back;

Last time I went to the desert I brought a roll of aluminum foil and some scotch tape. Only took a few minutes to block out the windows and it reflacted a lot of the morning desrt sun too. I bet I looked redreck as hell though...

aluminum foil = bad, it basically turns your interior into a baked potato... I'd use white posterboard if I were going to try and accomplish the same thing.

on a lighter note, I did some horizontal mambo-ing in the xterra this past weekend, as borat would say it was niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!

Slept in the back of the X last night for the first time. Took the rear seat bottoms out, folded the front seats up straight, took some big floor pillows from home and wedged them down where the gap was from the rear seat bottoms folded up and threw a bunch of blankets down. My girl, 90 lb dog, and I all slept cozy and i'm 6'1 and stretched out just fine. I love this X more and more every day.

Now to get the f'n campfire smoke smell out. disgust

I picked up a couple of the small action packer bins today and they are the perfect size for extending the bed.
Where did you get those bins? What kind/size are they? Not sure if "action packer" is a brand name. Looks like I need to pick up a few and keep them in the back all the time. You just never know...

They're 8 gallon Rubbermaid Action Packers. REI has them. I'm sure other places do, too.

Nice find, duel purpose can't get any better than that! MC

Wal-Mart usually carries the 8 gal Rubbermaid Action Packer
cost was about $14 from what I recall
really are a handy size, I have 4 in my work truck, but hadn't gotten to thinking what was needed yet for the X
Good thinking Mosi & Mindie!
