Can I just 'hard wire' the elocker without going through the Differential Lock Control Unit?

And if I can how would one wire it to a switch and/or indicator light?

Please advise using the "ABCD" contacts in diagram. Thanks!

gpzguy left a bit of info here on it http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44403

and 08XOR was doing something similar, you could shoot him a PM. I think It was using the OTRATTW switch with a factory offroad model, but i think the bypass would have to be done. He said something about just hiding the factory switch behind the dash so he's using the otrattw diff switch.

I did my last Fall and just used the C117 spot with a plug DJ grabbed out of a box of cut off connectors. Ran one wire up the tunnel, thru the E brake boot and up to the dash using a OTTW switch powered off the cig lighter power.
The ground I just hooked up underneath in the back somewhere.
Works great

the blue and gray wires of the wiring harness at the diff are the solenoid...and because its a solenoid, polarity doesn't matter. the other two wires are your diff lock endswitch. i do not know whether it is powered but i think its just a dry contact. if it is dry then you need to supply power to it and a light or led that takes 12vdc (or wire a resistor in series). if it does have power you just need to wire the light (and resistor) up. the negative lead of the light or led would of course go to ground.

Yep, as has been said. The solenoid just needs power going to it. I used my 4WD controll switch to control the locker switch... simple logic, it can only provide power to the OTRATTW switch when it is in 4lo by tapping the output of the mode switch in 4lo. Do, you don't need the diff lock control module. I'm trying to remember if I even bothered with a relay. It doesn't pass any current really, just provides voltage to the solenoid to actuate it. I may have, I just don't remember right now. I do remember testing the locking solenoid with a 9V battery and it worked, there really isn't a lot of draw on it.... but knowing myself, I probably did use a relay for fear of drawing too many milliamps off of the 4WD mode switch.

The other two leads are the diff lock position switch. When the diff is locked, it provides contact and you have continuity on the two leads... one lead should go to a ground somwhere, the other lead should be the ground leg off of a light on your dash... So diff is locked, switch contacts close, you have ground, and the light on the dash lights up and you've got an indicator. Kneebuster has a writeup of getting his indicator to work in the instrument cluster. That didn't work for me because mine is an SE model which has a different instrument cluster. I tried it and it didn't work, and I haven't gone back and tried to rework it since then, doing without an indicator light. What I'm going to do is use that ground path from the diff lock position switch on the light on the OTRATTW switch, so when I flip the switch to on, the light on the switch won't light up unless the diff is locked, and that'll be all the indicator I need.

PS, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner OZ, I'm in the midst of some marital strife that has me moved out of the house and shopping for a lawyer right now...

Hang in there man

Hey you guys I know Im not really a contributor on here at all but I need some help from some fellow nissan owners. And I realize this thread is super old haha. Im installing an m226 with a locker under my xe frontier tomorrow. It has 4.56 gears in it from superior gear. Since my truck is a 2wd xe it doesnt have any sort of diff control module or anything like that so I just want to know how to hard wire the switch and an indicator light. Ive looked all through the FSMs and cant figure out which colored wire are what exactly.

So I see the solenoid has a white and blue wire and polarity doesnt matter so that is easy.

And now the indicator light has a black and brown wire. Exactly how would I hook that up to a light for an indication light??? Thanks for any help guys. Heres a picture of the axle im installing and my truck.

It's a pass through. Ground either of them. When the lock engages, the ground will appear on the other. Wire this up to a relay and a light on the dash of some type. The light will indicate when the lock is engaged.

Spst relay

85- 12v fused (low amperage)
86- ground from diff
30- 12v fused(whatever the lightneeds)
87a- to + terminal on light

Light
+ From pin 87a on relay
- Ground

There are probably 4 or 5 different ways to do this. Opinions may vary.
