I wish you had posted this last week before I paid $268. to have mine replaced at the dealer.I did get the part for $74. though.How long did it take you to do it?

 

once i got the right size socket, about 2 minutes.......it's because of your post about that shadow that i put this together.

Should I disconnect the battery before doing this?

A/C is back in action!

Thanks for pointing out the location Bill, as I was about to disect my glove box looking for this thing.

I ended up disconnecting the negative contact on my battery before replacing. As far as the metal clip goes, I did not have to remove it. I just pushed excess wiring closer to the resistor giving me enough slack to disconnect while resistor was still screwed in place. Then I just unscrewed and swapped out and then reconnected.

I can't believe I went two months with no A/C and it only took me twenty minutes tops to fix.

BTW my dealership list the part for only $55.85!

however the socket size is 7/32

 

So this just happened to me tonight, I think. Just to confirm, I have A/C only on setting 1. 2,3,4, and Max/AC do not work. Does it sound like this? The fans blow, but the ac does not kick.

yea thats the same problem

Mine was
Setting 1 AC on you can hear the condenser turn on, but no air blows out
setting 2,3,4 AC turns off or flickers on/off but the air blows out

swapped the resistor and it works perfect again

I'm having the same or similar problem. With fan set at level 1, A/C button on (illuminated) or set at MAX AC the compressor loads. As soon as I turn up the fan switch level to 2,3, or 4 the AC button shuts off (compressor shuts off / unloads)but the fan will run at the higher level. Is that he same problem and does changing the blower resistor fix this issue?

I have the part on order, should be here on monday. That is the exact thing i have. Also, the A/C will flash and you can hear the compressor kick on and off if you do have it in the on position. I still get AC in position 1 but the fan does not work on that setting with the AC so it is only useful on the highway. With the AC turned off the entire system works fine.

 

Please let me know if it works. A local dealer in NH told me they thought it was in the control unit which is a $180.00 part. I'm a little skeptical considering the resistor is a lot cheaper.

Took mine in, on max fan it would blow hard and then slow, on low the fan would just blow hard. Took it in to stealership as it was under warranty and wanted 40K mile maintenance. just wanted radiator and transmission flush plus fan repair. They changed the cabin filter without asking and wanted $55 for it, told them to take it back out as I wasn't going to pay $25 labor to change it. They lowered the labor charge to $10 so I let them leave the new filter in.

Had another charge on the invoice called "shop charge" asked about it and was told that anytime they put the truck on computer they have to charge for it. I asked them why they had to put it on the computer and got no sensible response, so he lowered that charge to $10.

If it was listed as Blower Motor Resistor, I would have found it in time.
Seems like a weak link, Easy fix and Nissan Money maker. It seems as if you have a major problem and all it is is this? Mine too.

 

Resistor replaced and all is good

 

Does anyone know what the readings should be on a good resistor?

The exact same thing is happening in my '06. So happy to find this thread and all the useful/helpful info. I was doing the "should I take it in to get looked at" debate and glad I came back here to check with the group. Called the local dealer to see if he had it in stock and if he'll price match. I should be picking mine up tomorrow for about $49 + tax.

Fingers crossed this works... I don't think my wife and kids would be too happy driving 4+ hours in August without a/c when we go on vacation.

 

I hacked mine to work. I wasn't dropping 50 bux into that damned part. 1 and 2 are the same speed now, but it works. There's a thread somewhere.

What's the point of having 1 and 2 at the same speed? Might as well leave it as is and have 1 or 2 not working...
