Finally got that door open! Nissan must of ran out of lube on mine, There was NO lube that I could see of, just a lot of dust from keeping the parts from working. So after a lot of cleaning with alcohol, air and gobs of grease, my door now works. thank for the pic's JOols

your welcome, mine is still shot... seems like a dealer item (lock assembly) its about $100 bucks. i dont have the money for that so i wont be fixing it anytime soon...

do you guys think these are common part among the nissan suv/trucks? that would probably make it easier to find one in a parts yard.

i would think so... i called two places today and they both said right away "we dont have any newer frontier/xterra's"
i wish i could find one used tho.

I have had this happen a few times. I pushed on the door real hard and just hit lock/unlock on the door several times until I finally heard the door unlock. It usually happened when someone was trying to open the door when I was unlocking it. I assume you already tried this though so something may have broken or popped loose inside. As easy as mine was to initiate the problem I have doubts as to how durable some of the mechanism is inside.
This is the exact same thing that happened to me

.

I have the same problem with the driver's side rear door. I really don't want to take the door panel off from the inside. Sounds like a b!tch.

Pushing on the door seems to not work. I can hear the lock moving inside the door. The child lock is on. Putting both the kids in from the same side really sucks hard!

Bethlehem; Not that bad to take off really, I started from the top left corner, across the window than down, you got one screw that's kinda hide behind the inside door handle take that off, mines an 06,yours might be diff, once that's done, pull off the plastic cover, clean it w/alcohol or some cleaner that won't melt your parts, than lube it to death. Good luck on it

Joolsy2k your pics were a huge help! I was able to mess around and finally get my door working again. I noticed the problem is related to the external handle in regards to its reset spring. For some reason, when pulling the external handle on a locked door the mechanism will only return half way preventing the lock to disengage properly.
To prevent this problem I have make sure the back doors are unlocked before pulling the external handle. Easy said than done when you have kids or anxious passengers.

Mine has been stuck for a few weeks now. Finally had the time to pull off the door panel. Got the door opened, took out the whole lock assembly, cleaned/greased it and put it back in. The door works UNTIL i lock it. After I lock it, it wont open again.

Will be ordering a new lock assembly soon.

This happened to me a few weeks ago. After going through and lubricating the entire lock system, including cables, I found that it was the door handle causing the problem. When you pulled the handle to open the door, it would stick and not let the cable back out fully, so the next time you tried the door it wouldn't open. I removed and soaked the handle mechanism down with kroil, cleaned it up and re-lubed it; the door has been working fine since. I oredered another door handle just so I have it when it gives me trouble again.

Ugh...same thing going on with our '06....driver's side rear door won't open, lock won't cycle. My g/f was cleaning the X just before this happened...so it's possible the child safety lock got disturbed.

I'll try some of the things suggested in this thread and report back what works.

speedking, sorry to hear about your door being all goof up, more than likely your going have to take off your panel to see whats inside, hopefully you don't need new parts, just a good cleaning and more lube. good luck

So, pushing the door in...just next to ther door handle...while cycling the locks worked. I had to push in on the door while pulling up on the handle...but the door opened. I cleaning the lock mechanism and then hosed it down with WD-40 and "Presto"......it's working again. Electric/remote locking and unlocking works, child safety lock works, manually locking/unlocking works....looks like we got lucky.

I'll clean and lube the passenger's side this weekend.

Mine has also gone out. Passenger/RH rear door. I have an "X" model with manual locks. - As others have mentioned I was able to get it by cycling the lock from the inside while trying to open the latch and push on the door.

Seems to be a design flaw as I rarely use the rear passenger door. Grease and cleaning didn't help, so I'm ordering a new lock for ~$90. Has anyone found a better price?

I'm having this issue as well. I'll have to try pushing in on the door and see if that works, don't want to take the panels off but I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
