just 12 nuts. if you look under the rockers, there are 12 studs (6 on each side). I believe they are 14mm, not 100% though.

When you tighten them down, the directions said 6.5 lbs of torque, they do snap easy.

There should only be 3 stock studs on each side, and 6 total. The stock steps will come with 3 brackets and 6 small bolts to tighten the brackets to the step (3 each), then 6 nuts that fasten the whole step to the truck underneath the rocker panels once you find the studs and put them on
