Hey Presidente, where did you source these numbers? I noticed you've got two lines for axle ratio - one labelled axle ratio, and another for final drive ratio; these are actually the same thing on the truck.

Also, the value you have for 6spd reverse is different than what's listed for my '08 (here's the source I use: http://nissanhelp.com/models/2008/xterra/specifications.php, they have info for all years ... but folks have found a few discrepancies there, mostly in the 3.54:1 & 3.69:1 splits for FDR in 6spds ... far as I can remember there haven't been other discrepancies noted). However for the '06, I do notice that the reverse ratio matches what you have listed ... so there's that.

I think the Nissan Help site is a good place to look for a 'quick reference' if you will, but the FSM for a given year should probably still be the record of authority if looking things up, or even better just knowing what's actually on the vehicle in question ... but that's tougher (often impossible) without tearing into it.

Recommended Fuel: Premium Unleaded
I've only seen Regular unleaded listed as the recommended fuel, not premium. This is shown in skibum's link as well as my owners manual.

2011 Xterra Owners Manual said:
FUEL RECOMMENDATION

Use unleaded regular gasoline with an octane
rating of at least 87 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number
(Research octane number 91).

2005 "S" Manual - 3.54:1
2005 "OR"
- 3.69:1
2006-Present "X", "S", "SE"
- 3.13:1
2006-Present "OR" or "Pro4X"
- 3.36:1

Is there a source for this? Good information and I'm not trying to pick anything apart, but there is some info here that is varied from other sources.

2006-Present OR or Pro4X are 3:36 in the auto trans models, but I thought that they were still 3:69 in the manual trans?

2006-Present X, S, SE are 3:13 in the Auto trans models, but again, I thought that they varied (3:54?) in the manual trans models?

2005 Offroad models are still 3:36 in the auto trans models, this I can guarantee as I have actually replaced drive line components on those.

2005 non offroad models should still be 3:13 in the auto trans models

Again, just trying to get all the correct info here. This is useful information. It's possible that some of the info I have could also be incorrect. If gear ratios changed from 05 to 06 that would account for quite a bit of misinformation.

I updated this again. I will continue to update this to verify information. Most of this is from my memory, so forgive me for small corrections as we go along.

Early trucks recommended premium. Later trucks recommended regular. Nothing changed from year to year. The VQ40 runs better on premium. Period. It's the same concept as the VQ35, except our stroke is longer, which makes premium even more important.

I think they switched the recommendation to regular to bump sales, and rely on the knock sensor to do its job, however the VQ series engines produce more torque when the timing stays where its at with premium fuel.
