I need to replace my front differential. Can’t justify buying a $2,100 part for a high mileage car that may not survive the winter. Used is preferred because of this. I don’t really know the details as a mechanic will be doing the work. I’m not that knowledgeable on the topic so I apologize for a lack more info. Thanks for the read.

I still have the one I pulled to do a titan swap. 3.13 ratio, so if you have an automatic non offroad it’s the right one. 170k miles but absolutely no issues. And most importantly, cheap. $100

Im in CT, shipping would probably be another $100 to OH

let me know

So everything I’ve read on here tells me that an S automatic transmission has a gear ratio of 3.13. My mechanic took the vin and called the dealer for the ratio and was given a ratio of 3.54. I honestly don’t know what’s going on here.

If it's an automatic and it's any other model besides the Offroad model, then you most certainly have a 3.13 gear ratio.

By the way, I know the link I posted above is talking about the rear axle, but the thing to pay attention to is the the gear ratio. The front and back gear ratios have to match, so whatever the back is, the front has to be the same.

SO.... What year is your Xterra? What trim level? Manual or automatic?

The only 3.54 gear ratio is in a 2005 Manual Transmission. See Here:

4WD:

2005 - 2008
"X", "S", "SE" Auto - 3.13:1
2005 - "X", "S" or "SE" Manual - 3.54:1
2005 - 2009 "OR" Auto - 3.36:1
2005 - 2009 "OR" Manual - 3.69:1
2009 - Present "X" & "S" Auto - 3.13:1
2009 - Present "Pro4X" Auto - 3.36:1
2009 - Present "SE" & Pro4X Manual - 3.69:1

And that was taken from this link:

Yeah, you don't have a 3.54 if you have an automatic transmission. Period.
Dealer is an idiot, or a digit was wrong.
You also can not have anything other than 3.13 if you have a c200 rear diff unless it was regeared (they all had 3.13 except like the few 2 wheel drive autos of a few years)

It’s a 2007 auto S. I called another dealer’s parts department and they said they wouldn’t know the gear ratio without opening up the differential itself even if I provided the VIN. So it sounds like to me, you guys are the experts and I’m happy to put my trust in the collective! Thank you everyone. Much appreciated.
