This event was made on the VAXC Facebook page but wanted to share it here for potential interested people.

Trail location: Flagpole Knob
When: April 27th 5pm to April 29th at 5pm

Well everyone, it's about time we get rolling again and have some events - and why not start with the 4th Annual Wheel Away Winter!

Man, it's been 4 years of this? Who would have thought - that is awesome!

We will all meet up at the Sheetz down in Harrisonburg like past events. This allows us to gas up, gear up, and then look really cool winding through downtown to the trail.

Sheetz
798 E Market St
Harrisonburg, VA 22801

The usually rules and guidelines go for all of our trips:
We tread lightly - so no messing up trails or making new ones
We always leave camp sites as clean or cleaner than we found them
Respect all GWNF rules
Have fun and have a good attitude!

Please feel free to invite friends along if you would like. We like to have fun at these, but please remember some members bring their kids because we are all one big family.

Stay tuned for more information everyone!
Can't wait to see everyone out again!
Bring camping supplies.

If any questions post on the event page on Virginia Xterra Club (VAXC.org) Facebook page.

See you all there.

I'm really hoping to make this trip. I'm also hoping to have my lift done by then as well... I've just got to receive my u-bolt flip from PRG that's been on order two weeks now.
This will be the first time I've gone to Flagpole but it's said it's stock friendly and most of the harder stuff has bypasses. So hope you can make it >:)

I ran it from top to bottom last year and had no problems. I think they may run a slightly different route up the mountain though.

I've got it on the calendar, camping is dependant on weather though. I'm not a fan of camping in a monsoon...

Ahh forgot you were the one who posted about it before. Yeah I hope it's not too bad myself lol though I may still go even if it's raining though I may just sleep in the rig then.

Spoke with Josh today and it looks like this event is cancelled/postponed. Turnout was going to be low (5 trucks which I think is about perfect) but then he has had steering issues and one of the other guys is bailing to help him sort out his X.

So... what are we gonna get into instead?

Is this still happening? Are the unlucky MD residents allowed to join?

The VAXC event is not happening but @IssacHunter and myself are hooking up with a group from the Mid Atlantic Overland group on FB to ride Flag Pole Saturday. You might check in on their page, they are meeting around Haymarket that morning to come down.

Cool. I don't have FB but I will see if I can find the group. I looked up Flagpole and it looks cool. I have never done a group event, so I probably won't have time to prepare by tomorrow. But here are some questions:

1. Is flagpole stock friendly?
2. What communication equipment do you use? CB or HAM? Something else?

Thanks,
Red

It's stock friendly. I ran it last year in my S with 265/70 tires.

I prefer Ham or FRS/GMRS but this group is mainly CB.

We're meeting at the Harrisonburg Sheets @ about 10am tomorrow.

Camping is to be determined and free I think. Looks like 11+ vehicles so far. That's more than I normally like but it should still be a good day.

A couple pictures from the trip. The other VAXC guys wound up backing out but @IssacHunter and I were determined to get into SOMETHING. A guy I've rode with before from OB turned me on to the Mid Atlantic Overland Society on FB and they were headed up the same day, so we just joined in with them. Wound up being 20 rigs, which is a BUNCH, but since the trail up was relatively easy, we didn't have any issues. Going down, the group split in two and that kept the road blocks to a minimum as well.

Early Saturday morning, @PipeFighter texted and said he was coming so he met up with @IssacHunter and I in Lexington as well and we had a great time.

Issac powering his way up a little obstacle. Shortly after I snapped this his front tires were both in the air. He goes full out man!

This was a great adventure. Since it was OverlandBound and Mid Atlantic Overland we ended up around 20 vehicles total. @PipeFighter came to impress some of the others on what a stock Xterra was able to do as well.

A few pics of Terry's rig to add
