Hey everybody. I got my Shrockworks bumper and slider on my '05 OR now I want the lift before I get new tires. I was thinking of REAR LIFT SHACKLES, LONGER BRAKE LINES AND FRONT SPRINGS from AC. The OR has Bilstien shocks as you all know. Now the questions: Anyone know what Bilstien shocks come with the OR/are they the same that AC sells in its '05-'06 Xterra suspension packages? If I need to change the shocks what size would you all recommend (12"-14"-17")? Do I need to get the two degree shims, if so where do they go? What would be better shackles or add a leaf, or can you do both? I was wanting to go to 285/75 16 tires but I read some people have problems with that size on the stock rim should I get them? If so, I have no problem staying with the 265/75 16 size. Also, is there a body lift? Would it be worth it? Yes when I shoot out questions I use my big guns lol. As you can see I'm not going too high and staying within a tight budget. As I figure around $300 for the basic parts I listed if I can use my shocks. I appreciate any help I can get on this or if anyone has a better set up let me know. THANKS!!!

And GOD BLESS Steve Irwin and his family Terri, Bindi, and little Bob. He was a crazy & fun guy but we all are when we are doing what we love to do. Everywhere he went was OFFROAD. Remember to leave nature better than we found it. Take care Steve we love you and will miss you... "CRIKEY, CROCS RULE!"

Man it seems like i am the only one who likes to respond to these questions. I just answered the same thing over at XOC.

Anyway, If you want the AC lift go with the shackle, coilspring combo. If you decide to get the Add A Leaf (instead of the shackle) then that is when you would need to get the wedge thingy to put between the axle and leaf pack to prevent vibration. (no vibration occurs with the shackle lift) As for the shocks im pretty sure the extended ones that they sell with the package are the same ones that come with the OR edition. I personally upgraded to the adjustable rancho shocks. You dont absolutely have to change shocks or put extended brake lines but if you are going to be doing any offroading at all i highly recommend it. Also, many of the people on this forum are running the 285/75/16 (including myself) I dont have issues with them but some people say they have slight vibration. (its a friggin truck with 33's its not going to ride like a mercedes!!) And yes you can put both the Add a leaf and the shackles on your truck. (but then you definitely need the brake lines and shocks extended.

I dont know about body lifts but there are 2 people running them (i dont remember who they were)

Hope this confused you even more!!!!!!

I'm in the same situation right now. Want to get lift, don't want to drop $1000 (yet). I am still undecided but I think I'm going with:
-AC front coils.
-Calmini AAL's (maybe custom springs)
-Rancho 9000 (longer)
-longer brake lines

As far as tires, also undecided but leaning towards 255/85/16 that will fit in the stock OR wheels (which I happen to like). Here's a quote someone.

Well if its fitting in a 7x16, the 255/85/16 will fit. I had a set (BFG M/T) on my FJ-70 and I loved it. Most people don't like it because they are narrower and have "less flotation" but they have +/- the same contact area as the 265/75/16 and lower rolling resistance (for the same thread pattern).

I am very likely to get them after I lift my X.

255/85/16 on a Tacoma
And by the way, I'm still holding on because I'm saving for our New Year's trip to Manhattan.

I see you both have ORs. Just so you know, the OR already comes lifted (not only from the bigger tires, but also SL). I don't remember how much, I think it's about an inch. So you won't get the 2.5" of lift from the AC coils compared to your stock height.

I run AC coils and shackles, with Rancho 9000 shocks.
Total cost after coil installation and alignment was $540.

I had the front coils installed professionally because it cost $80 and saved me the hassle.

In Times Square? Times Square is not worth it since 9/11. Very restrictive. However, NYC is always fun around X-mas time. Enjoy it if do come out.

Nope, not sure where this year, two years ago we went to a private party in Battery Park, awesome. Times Square gets too crowded and you aren't allowed to have any glass. What's the point of New Year's without a bottle of Champagne?
I'm flying there, its too far to drive. Otherwise I'd love to do some wheeling with the folks in NY and NJ.

Are you sure about this? It sure seems like it, but the stupid guy in the stupid dealer told me the suspension was EXACTLY the same in the S and the OR execpt for the shocks. Mmm...

There is no SL that comes with the stock OR. Just bigger tires and the bilstiens front and rear. The rear shackles and the front coils are the same. Lift in the front comes from stiffer coils.

These tires are more then a full inch taller then a 33. You are going to have clearance issues.

When I got my X, I measured it against a stock one and the difference was more than one inch. Don't remember how much though. The tires will only give you 0.5" of lift. After lifting mine, I tried to verify this and went to the dealer to remeasure, but they had no ORs (mine is no longer stock). Mine OR was a special order and they told me it was the only OR they have had, so I have not been able to check this. If anyone has a dealer where they stock ORs and could check this would be great!

You don't have to really check anything. There is no lift in the OR model. Shocks do not effect ride height and the springs are identical (front and rear). There are a number of factors that could account for the .5" difference you are were seeing.

Surface, measuring method, diference in weight on the truck (was the non OR one you checked a 2wd model?), etc.

Thanks for all your help. And damn it MC it's like I'm a step behind you!!! :confused2: Your rig looks great, I see we have the same taste what are you reading my mind? (actualy I got the silver because that's the only OR 4x4 they had lol) At lest I know what it will look like with the Shrockworks rear bumper. S_e_X-terra, seems like you know everything and with MC's pics me and my friends shouldn't have a problem. I'll start with what I was first thinking of getting then add longer shocks and tires later.
Thanks again everyone for all your help...now I'm hungry for...pizza???
