So I did a search before making my maiden post!!
hello all, thank you for keeping a forum alive with so much information!! (I’ve literally found everything else I e needed to know so far)

so my question is, I’m going to be mounting my alternator in stock oem location, however I’m running a dummy cell under the hood to maintain distribution.
I am going to be running a lithium bank in the rear, now my question is, will I fry anything like ipdm or ecu by running at 15.5vdc?
now before you guys flame me for this, I am running a very large stereo setup, and my previous vehicle ran the 15.5vdc with no issues. I’m going to get my high output alt recased by my alternator guy, I have external voltage regulator to up the voltage, and my amperage output is 390clamped amps.
for previous knowledge I have built many vehicles, and would much sooner run a 2nd alt with the dedicated voltage, but there is literally no room to do so!!
thoughts? Input?(besides it’s stupid and pointless, because it brings me joy and that’s good enough for me)

That is awesome!

I am going to say, who really knows. These trucks are so touchy about voltage, that you may end up destroying an IPDM.

We know electronics in automotive applications are capable of handling 15 to 16v with minor issues, the ecu and other controllers are mostly the concern.
The X would probably just regulate the voltage down to stay in the correct voltage range.

thank you for your reply,
I’m pretty much bypassing the controller and stock wiring, I have an external voltage regulator (adjustable).
I was hoping the ipdm wouldn’t be affected but I should have known better lol. This was my fear!! I mean I can run my lithium down to 14.6, adjust down alt as well, but amp won’t make nearly as much power.

Do you have an isolator, so you could run the lipo as a separate circuit but still get charged?

I do not know if the IPDM or ecu would be effected. I just know they are touchy. Their not that expensive, so I would probably do it, turn everything down to start, and slowly turn it up till the voltage you desire. If nothing happens, great!

I do not know a lot about audio equipment, so please clarify if I do not understand.
Why are you after higher voltage? Do amps and speakers operate better, clearer, with higher voltage and lower amperage?

Well you don’t learn until you ask right?
my amplifier is actually 18v, but I am opting to run at 15.5, with calculations I should be able to pull about 12000wrms out of it constantly(with box rise and such)

goid to know, I do have a parts xterra and am pulling the ipdm and ecu, hopefully can get them programmed. (If it fails)
Guess that settles it I will just full send it lol.
As for an isolator, I have some but I won’t be using them as the lithium will be the only source of power

no issues yet been driving this way for a week now(I’m the icestorm we got here as well)
