Hello Everyone,

I have a 2006 Xterra OR. I have had it for about a year and the TPMS light has always been on, regardless of how much air is in the tires. I had new tires put on a few months ago and had hoped it was just bad sending units in the wheels, but the issue did not go away. I tried relearning the devices (there was some procedure with the controls on the door to put the module in learn mode then you drive around and all is well) but it did not fix anything. I recently had to purchase a new scanner so I got with with most of the bells and whistles. I am able to scan the TPMS for DTCs on all my other vehicles (Subaru and Lexus) and when I scan all modules it shows that it scans it, but then it is not populated in the list with the other modules (Engine, Transmission, SRS, ABS, etc.). Is this indicative of a dead TPMS brain or is there something else I can check?

Cheers,
Andrew

The battery is in the sealed yellow part.
The TPMS rebuild kit parts are at the bottom of the picture.
The TPMS has a typical life span of 5-7 years.
When one fails it is an indicator that ALL are nearing their life end.
Replace them all to save yourself heartache.

Blinking TPMS = fault in system (dead battery, sensor disconnect, missing/broken sensor, etc)

Solid on = sensors see conflicting data / low pressure.

My only thought of a solid on with all pressures correct is that the system is not calibrated to where ur pressures are at. As in, the system was last calibrated to say 40psi and all are at 35, it'll throw the light. Or! For some reason ur spare has a tpms and it's low. Most ppl don't think about this, but it is a direct setup (sensor-driven) rather than indirect, which would be an ABS style setup found on European cars.

Ending up being one dead battery. Another was low and the last two were good as new.

On a side note, if you run load range E tires and like to run somewhere around 32 psi, it will trigger the TPMS. Supposedly Nissan can reprogram it to trip at a lower psi but I didn't confirm.

My TPMS light will come on with an obnoxiously long beep if I have a low tire pressure. But almost every time I drive, about 45 min into my trip, the light comes on with no beep. I've had a mechanic tell me that one of the sensors is dead. Oddly, that was not the tire that has a slow leak in it but does not trip the light. I top off my tires about once a month anyway so I'm ok not having the TPMS working
