Well, technically I have already claimed the damage w/ USAA (my auto insurance), but should I follow through w/ the repairs? Here is the 'trail damage' done by taking a corner to close and scraping a cement partition at the bank parking lot:

As you can see above, I have a slight dent coming through to the inside of the R rear door.
These two pics are the ones I'm worried about, you can see a bit of rust forming: http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa192/TXterra37/Xterra/IMG_3081.jpg

And here's the last one, pretty much this is what bothers me, just looks bad cosmetically: http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa192/TXterra37/Xterra/IMG_3079.jpg

Just got back from the collision place and have an estimate of $916.81, details include: quarter panel repainting + clear coat, end cap & bumper step replacement, window removal (said he had to do this in order to avoid tape lines from repainting the quarter panel and pin stripe), outer panel repair + clear coat, door shell repair, and then random labor chargers for having to remove body side molding during this process.

My question is...is this all worth it or should I pocket the $816.81 (after my $100 deductible) and put towards what I really want (and prob really need, given my new driving vibration problem)--Radflo's and new UCA's?! I ordered the touch-up paint + clear coat pen and thinking I can fix the cosmetic damage myself, and perhaps take a BFH and knock out that door dent.

personally, i would get it fixed right at a body shop, but that's just me. secondly, you could probably save some money (monthly, quarterly, yearly, whatever) on your insurance if you upped your deductible to $500.

granted, when you hit concrete pillars in bank parking lots, it would cost you more out of pocket, but i hear they sell drivers manuals pretty cheap (to teach you how to avoid hitting things in the first place)

Seriously dude? I had some damadge similar to that, except i actually hit a fender on a tree in tight quarters in TN on a trail run. My bud works at a body shop, he made it look like new for me, for free. But if he didnt do the work for me, id clean it up, paint it myself and detail the crap out of the car. Im not sure id pay to have that fixed. But then again, if its only goona cost you 100 bucks, id probably have it done.

But its not like you have some massive dent of something. No one would notice it if you touched it up yerself i bet.

Yeah, I'm leaning more towards putting the $$$ towards new front suspension...but then again, it would only cost me $100 to have it done right. Buuut, I don't have body shop connections so "FREE" is outta the question for me.

It really isn't that big of a deal to me to try and clean it up myself w/ the paint touch-up. The only thing I'm worried about is that rust spot. To fix that is pretty easy, right? Just sand it down before repainting and clear coat?

this is a very interesting thread to me, I just called my insurance about getting my door fixed and they just tould me that I would have to pay the first 1000 dollars and they would pay anything after than that. :sad5: the entire job is going to cost about $550.

Wow, so your deductible is $1000 and the damage is only $550? $hitty deductible man, that's why I opted mine for only $100.

I have a $100 deductible, both comprehensive and collision, and I only pay ~$90 a month. I'm happy.

And I could've got away w/ only replacing the two tires that had the warped tread due to the fiance nailing the curb. (Talked about this over here, http://thenewx.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=8324&highlight= ) I opted for all four just cuz it was a good deal w/ the warranty I had through Discount Tire, $287 for 4 new tires is pretty nice. Even though they were pretty much brand new, 4 months old w/ ~11k miles.

That's soo weird because the first thing she did was look up my deductible and she said it was 10 dollars ????????? I must have heard her wrong.
So which is it, $10 or $1000? That's a pretty big difference!
haha well i guarantee that she said I would have to pay 1000 dollars up front, so it must be 1000.

Well here are some updated pics of my damage. I ordered the touch-up paint and clear coat pen from Courtesy Parts and tried it myself.

Before: http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa192/TXterra37/Xterra/IMG_3081.jpg
After: http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa192/TXterra37/Xterra/IMG_3092.jpg

After: http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa192/TXterra37/Xterra/IMG_3094.jpg

Now all I have to try and work on is pushing that dent out...

good job man, not bad
Yeah, thanks. It turned out better than I was expecting, just dabbed on the paint yesterday and then the clear coat today. Anyone have experience w/ this touch-up paint? Last time my car got a paint job from some repairs they told me not to wash it for 30 days, think the same applies here?
