Trip planning

So the GF and I are talking about taking and epic trip when she graduates college. At each stop we are planning on doing some hiking, mountain biking, wheeling or kayaking. Most of the trip will be spent camping, although we are planning on staying in a hotel at least once every 5 to 7 days so we can have a bed, a roof and place to do some laundry.

Departure point MA/CT

1. Mt Rushmore/Badlands N.P. (South Dakota)
2. Yellowstone N.P. (Montana/Wyoming)
3. Mt Rainer N.P. (Washington)
4. Crater Lake N.P. (Oregon)
5. Redwood N.P (California)
6. Yosemite N.P. (California)
7. Pacific Coast Highway (California)
8. Vegas/Hoover Dam/Lake Mead (Nevada)
9. Grand Canyon N.P (Arizona)
10. Zion N.P. (Utah)
11. Bryce Canyon N.P (Utah)
12. Canyonlands N.P. (Utah)
13. Arches N.P. (Utah)
14. Moab (Utah)
15. Uncompahgre N.F (Colorado)
16. Rocky Mountain N.P. (Colorado)
17. Great Smoky Mountains N.P. (Tennessee)
18. United States Marine Corps Mueseum (Virginia)
19. Arlington National Cemetary (Virginia)
20. United States Marine Corps Memorial (D.C.)
21. Smithsonian (D.C.)
22. Home

I realize that this is an extremely long list and an awful lot of traveling, and will cost a large amount of money. As of right now this is just a dream, but I will make it to all of these places (and more) before I die

Yeah we were talking about doing an online journal that we could update every opportunity with summaries and pics. Some of the people I work with suggest we write a book about it, but a million people have been to all these places. Also who the hell would want to read a book about us driving around the country and seeing all these places.

Oh also I forgot. This trip was pretty much inspired by the National Parks documentaries that Ken Burns did for PBS.

Year and a half to two years. This trip is a ways away, which is fine by me because it will be a huge chunk of cash (Im thinking at least 10k)

Read A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. He wrote a book about hiking the appalachian trail, which lot of people have done as well. If you can find a way to be humorous and connect with the reader it would make a great book. I think it would be a great book if you talked about prep, traveling, everything that went wrong (when documenting them think of 1 year after the trip to find the humor in it), all those life changing thing you witness along the way.

Just an idea.

That is the reason why I wanted mine, besides the fact it was time for new ones. My E load wardens are Fing heavy!
