Switches for the dash spaces.

8187 Views 32 Replies 22 Participants Last post by  allrytx
Hey All,
Did I read, some time ago, that there are switches that match the stock ones in the dash
(Next to the VDC switch)

And, if not,, does anyone have any suggestions for the off-road lights on the bumper ?
I've just picked up some Hellas with a really dumb switch.

http://www.4x4mods.com has switches that fit direct. Just a side note; I bought one about 2 months ago, it looks great but if I hook up the ground side I blow a fuse. If I leave the power (source) and load (relay) hooked up with no ground the switch works but the indicator light doesn't light up.

If anyone has a suggestion on how to get the switch to light up I'm game to try just about anything.
I have mine hooked up. The light (on the switch) only lights up when the switch is "on" when the switch is "off" it isnt lit up.

Is that what you want yours to do?

Jim,

Hella makes a much better switch (than what came with the lights) that is a direct fit for the hole. I think the part no. 96517 (Switch F/450). Price was about $13cdn each.

I had to ask for the Hella parts ordering book at my local auto parts store to find this switch...couldn't find it on-line. I think Hella makes these for Toyota as they both came in Toyota packaging. They fit perfectly, so perfectly in fact that taking them out may be difficult, so make sure you install it correctly the first time. The light on the switch comes on when the lights are on. The switch is rated for 20Amps I think, but I would still use a relay.

Bought mine from them as well for my Hella's. Works great and fits perfectly into our spaces. I know when I need more I'll be ordering from them again, especially since they have them in yellow!
I like those! Would those work on something like a power inverter? I'd like to permanently mount and wire it somewhere and would love to have a switch to turn it on and off.

Depends on the current requirement for the inverter. Some of the smaller ones run 100-200 watts worth of power and a switch will handle that. Beyond that I'd rather see you use a heavy duty relay ... and even then some inverters are up at 2000 watts and that's got to be a very powerful relay.

Dont some inverters already have switches on them. I had one hooked up to my suburban powering my playstation 2. It had a switch right next to the plug (if I can dig up a picture i will)
"Napa? North Shore Off Road?"

I bought them from Lordco. Just ask to look at their Hella parts book.
Most switches on the inverters just turn off the outlet and still allows power to flow into the inverter (you will hear the fan kick on to cool down the transformer).

If you do try it with an inverter, use a relay do not try and run full power through the switch, you WILL burn it out. You inverter while working can draw a lot of amps. Most switched are rated at 1-2A. Even if the switch was rated at 30A, I would still not trust it.
Hey All !! Here's my final on this .

I re-called HellaUSA again today and got another person that directed me to: Rallylights.com
