Depends...

All your rock crawlers use them. It's the only way they don't end up on their lid half the time. You do have to know what the hell you are doing as a spotter though. It also sure beats having someone reach out and grab on to your fender (which I have seen people do).

I don't expect to ever need one. :)

I wonder how it handles down the highway. :)

As for using a spotter line with an X, the fact that the only 2nd gen X currently able to even come close to that type of Rock Crawling is Pony Boy's, I don't think we'll have to worry about it.

But to be honest, there are crawlers that weigh in close to the X (Bronco buggies) and they use lines. You would be shocked at how little force it takes to keep the front end on the ground.
