Hello from Richmond. I'll be lurking about and reading a lot here for a while but I thought I'd say hello.

So technically I own a 2012 Xterra S but it's my wifes and (she says) I won't be wheeling that for many years.

I currently run a 2000 Jeep TJ with 2.5" of lift and 33's and I'm starting to get the itch to go in a different direction. After the driving her X for a year I've decided that's the direction I want to go. 8 years ago I took the plunge into Jeeps without a lot of knowledge and built the rig 3 times before I got it where I wanted. It's built with a low COG and smallish tires but goes everywhere but buggy trails so I don't feel like I need to build the biggest X in the world to be happy.

I thought I'd do a little more research this time and try building it right the first time (yeah, sure. We all know that's how that works). So far I like what I see here and I look forward to learning from y'all and hopefully returning the knowledge at some point.

Herb

Thanks. I'm sure we know some of the same people. I've been here for almost six years and trail guide at the Oak Ridge events. Was/am a member of what's left of River City Trail Runners.

Haven't seen too many built X's around here. Mostly just one that sits at Greentop. Hope to add to it by this summer. Can't get rid of the Jeep before Wheelin' For Hope in April.

Welcome to the forums. Sounds like you have some cool access to some more local events. Would be cool to get into some of that. I've found it hard to get access to a lot of the local type stuff as it is fairly closed clubs.

I'm up in Fredericksburg, Va. Spend quite a bit of time down in Richmond though.

Thanks Old Navy. I'll check out the links.

Killswitch, love your rig. I went through your build thread before signed up. Humming Killswitch songs the whole time in my head of course. Oak Ridge is in Nelson county about half way between Charlottesville and Lynchburg. There's about 40 miles of trails but its only open twice a year for events. Wheelin' for Hope is in April but its sold out this year already. The other is in September. It's the Va4WD Association Annual trail ride. Other than that we hit a few trails in the GW and the obligatory Rausch Creek trip every year or so. I am guiding at WFH in April so I can't sell the Jeep until after that.

I'm right off of the first 295 exit west of 95 if you're down this way some time. I would love to see your rig in person.

Hey Herb, welcome to the forum!

I was the silver Xterra in your group last year at Wheelin for Hope! Funny to see you on here. I'm glad to see you'll be at WFH again and leading too. I'll be there again this year, hopefully titan swapped!

So I'm confused, you're wife still wont let you wheel the X for many years, but you plan to sell the Jeep right after WFH. Plans for the meantime?

Hey there! I wondered if I'd find you here. Glad to hear you're coming back to WFH.
Can't wait to see what you've done to the rig. Sounds like I won't be spotting you around the little rocks this year. You've gone from not wanting to scratch your bumper to ripping out the front end and replacing it in less than a year. Very nice!

Plans in the meantime If I sell the Jeep....buy my own X to build. I'll just park my awesomeness next to hers and make her jealous.

Another welcome from Richmond!

Yeah, like thecoalition said - we have a regular runs and mod days (once the weather stops acting all crazy) pretty often. Most members either post up here or over at the FB page. We have a website as well, going under some maintence as our "webmaster" is moving across the country but things should be back to normal soon. There is a run coming up in March, and I am sure there might be one or two random ones before that.

and Killswitch - are you planning on making it out to any of the VAXC runs this year?

Thanks man! I had heard about the Wheeling for Hope runs through va4x4.com but hadn't figured out how to get involved. Those guys over there seemed pretty receptive, just didn't see to much activity as most seemed to know eachother personally and communicated that way.

I'll have to get in touch with you at some point when I'm down towards Richmond again. That or make it out to an event etc. Hope to see you around!

Ya I will eventually. It's been a scheduling thing. I wheeled GWNF a couple times this summer with a few friends. The one run you guys did I had just been out there and didn't have time to go again. The other one something came up, can't remember what, but ya, just poor timing. Sadly it's been a slow year for me as far as wheeling goes:( Missed a lot of the runs at Rausch as well.

I figued you had been busy man, I know with work and all, plus life off the trails. We have that run coming up in March and once I get my tires I am sure the fire will re-ignite to get out there and set up more things. There are more trails out west I found out about that I want to check out. The girl wants to check out RC too, so hopefully we all get to wheel soon.

Killswitch - Here's their FB page https://www.facebook.com/Wheelin4Hope
And website http://www.wheelin4hope.com

Just PM me if you want and I can get you my address if you're want to stop by. Always looking for more people to wheel with though I don't get out much anymore. Hoping a new project will kickstart that a little.

obi_krash - I'll have to hook up with y'all sometime. What's left of RCTR still meets once a month for dinner but it's not an actual club anymore. We disbanded to cut out all the fighting. No club money = no more fighting over which organization we should back = no more meetings spent listening to people argue. :) The arguers went away.
