I am and always have been aware of the off road merrits of nerf bars and the stock step rails on the xterra. So I always make very sure I have clearance on the trail. I went up a trail I had gone on before, so I didnt really check as closely. What I forgot to factor in is that when I last went on this trail, I had no step rails yet.

I went to a car wash, hosed it off, and took of the nerfs right there so I could inspect the damage. Thankfully, I have a decent tool set in the truck. You can see how the rock tore off the center bracket.

The body damage is minimal. Only some paint mars and scratches. The weld seam underneath is dented in in one place. On the inside of the body, one of the rail's mounting studs is ripped off.

Be VERY careful about off roading if you have stock nerf bars. I need the sliders!!!$$$!!!

that just justifies it to me. I was looking at some nerf bars since I have 285's, but I can use the sliders as a step bar too
