when i get on the highway in the morning my steering wheel shakes but later on it stops do i need an alignment or what?

Quickest cheapest and easiest would be to rotate your tires. Next would go to a shop and get the tires rebalanced and see if that helps. Then look into alignments if that doesnt help or if you look at your tires for weird wear patterns.

I was getting alot of shaking on the freeway. Turns out I had ripped the top off of one of the front shocks. (bilsteins) It's probably worth taking a look at them.

Also, if it is extremely cold it can temporarily deform the tire until it warms up via driving.

It could be the stretch of road you are on. Try going on a different freeway (highway) and see if you still get the vibration in the steering wheel.

Check your tires for the proper pressure and for any signs of abnormal wear. Regularly rotating them is a good idea.
