Anyone else experience this? When dropping the truck off for service last Wednesday my fiancee mentioned that there's a burning rubber smell, esp after highway driving. I noted this on the drop-off sheet (both have busy schedules so we usually drop it off after hours). I stopped by the dealer the next day and the SA said the seal between the transmission (6spd MT) and transfer case was failing and needed to be replaced but had to be ordered so if we can drop it off again next Wednesday and they can have it all day Thursday to which I said fine. She said they topped off the fluid but I'm not sure if it was in the case or the tranny that was leaking as I never noticed and puddles or drips. Is this a common issue?

Uhmm... dropped truck off last night for seal to be replaced. Got a call this afternoon that they'd like to keep it for another night because there's actually 2 seals and the second one is leaking worse than the 1st so that's getting replaced in the morning. Is there anything thing else I should look for once I get it back?

Whoa, no auto here! 6 speed manual tranny. Got call from dealer this afternoon that Nissan had sent wrong part for 2nd seal so now I'm promised to have it back by tomorrow morning.

I just took a three hour trip back to houston and noticed a burning smell. It is the second time that I have noticed such smell. i dismissed it as the radio overheating (stupid me!!). the difference is that i have an automatic. could it be the same problem??? Should i have it checked out!

Definately worth looking into. Would be interesting to see if it's an isolated thing. Or hypothetically if someone w/ an auto has same issue then is it a case of faulty seal design? Also I have to pick up a loaner tomorrow morning as now I'm being promised Tuesday so I'd be interested to find out if the problem is on the tranny side or something on the transfer case.

I have noticed a burning smell aswell, but only occasionally, and it is pretty faint. Also, my trans fluid is still full and I have an automatic.

Looks like we might have a major problem on our hands guys!! Everyone go the the nissan dealership at the same time and overload them!!! :evil1:
Went by there this morning and they had my truck up on the lift, mid-section of the exhaust taken apart and transfer case sitting on a shelf. Tech was showing me the seal is only about 3" or so in diameter, the transmission has like a spline that sticks into the transfer case and that's where it was leaking from. I'm told Tuesday but that all depends on when Nissan gets the correct part to them. In the meantime I have an '04 Jaguar X-Type as a loaner. Still not sure what to think of it yet, Gets a lot of looks but I expected a much smoother ride. Engine is peppy and the AWD keeps it from breaking loose.
