San Juan, Uncompahgre National Forest, Colorado Camping Trip
My wife and I took a 3300 mile social-distancing vacation from Tennessee to southern Colorado last month, and man it was worth it. The San Juan's are 100% worth the drive, and Uncompahgre is just as beautiful.
I took an inordinate number of pictures of my truck... so here are some of my favorites!
Leaving Yankee Boy Basin
We only went about halfway up the Jeep trail. It was too late in the day and I was worried about getting stuck. My wife also saw the overturned Jeep off to the side of the trail...

We camped at Alta Lakes, our new favorite spot. Here's some pictures from the road up + Gold King Basin

We also think we may have had a furry visitor overnight... good thing we were camped in the truck. I may be crazy, but I heard a big bang before I went to sleep, and I rationalized it away as something in the truck having broken which at the time was a better idea than something being outside the truck. My wife pointed out the dirty print on the fender, which was very different than the clean prints I left on the fender when I was airing up the tires.

We also did Ophir pass. Maybe we'll try Imogene next time.....

The jeep has been off the Yankee Boy road almost all summer. We talked to the aunt of the young man (he is a local) that mixed speed, alcohol, and vehicles into what could have been a deadly cocktail.

She senses some kind of magnetic attraction that will pull the X and us to our doom and my driving can't resist it!I took the pass in my old GMC S-10 Jimmy years ago. I learned the difference between carburetion and fuel injection at high altitude, when the Jimmy finally ground to a halt about 100 feet from the summit! After numerous attempts to restart it, I finally took the air filter off and crawled past the summit.
That was the last time I took the Jimmy over 9,000 feet.
