I posted before that on the highway if I put a little pressure on the throttle...I get whats similar to an alt. whine noise. Now I know the alt should not be stressed with no ac on, stereo turned off, etc. but it stilll does it.

I was testing it this weekend on a long trip, and it happens exactly between 70-72mph. No other speeds. I can be coasting down a hill at 70, no throttle pressure, no noise. Tap the throttle a tiny bit, it whines. So I def dont think its wind noise, or it would do it all the time at those speeds...

Any idears? Could it be the alt already? anything else that could cause this?

Yeah I hear the same whining on mine but it happens sporadicaly. it lastes like for 5 seconds and then it goes away. i have never notice at wat speeds or RPM's but it sounds like a presure valve being open or something like that. I asked for that earlier and I think someone told me it was the ABS. I might be wrong but that is what i remember. and it has being doing that since i got it.

I'm not much help with this one as I get a lot of wind noise because of my lights are close to the gear basket.

OK as I was driving today I noticed that the noise happened sporadically at about 2000 RPM sometimes at 45 others at 65 but never twice in a row. I did notice thought that the level has gone down a lot to the point that i need to turn the radio off to even notice it

The whining I experience isnt associated with any certain road speed. It does usually escalate into screaming along with two handed passenger handle gripping.

I think seXterra has had some odd low speed noises too.

Well, party pooper here. Back to the subject at hand......

I have the noise in question as well. Mine is at ~55mph and ~75mph. It also is enhanced when it is raining. From my best deductions it is a harmonic noise. Maybe coming from the tires into the frame. That would also explain why it is enhanced in rain being that water caries sound and harmonics better.
What tires and model are the vehicles that have this "harmonic" sound? I have an X model with the General Grabber stock tires. No skids yet either, which may or may not help dampen the frame carrying the sound.

whining noise

I am new to this forum and I have the same problem like yours. Mine start whining about 40m/h and continue to 70m/h after that it stops. everytime I let the gas pedal go the whining goes away. The dealer recommended transmission fluid change and I did. Still there. I am going back to the dealer this friday again and see what the say. Oh! my manifold is cracked to. The one on passenger side. That will cost me about $600. Anyway if I find out any new things I will let you know.

I had the exact same problem like yours with my 2006 Xterra, 6spd. Mine made the noise between 67-72 mph. I took it to the dealership and they replaced rear differential yesterday. The noise is gone and I am so happy now. I just joined this club to tell you this since I owe to this club for so many useful information. I hope that this would help. If I don't see your reply, I will pm you.
