Most have foolproof mounts, one being different from the other end so you can't mess em up. I have seen some mention the valving won't work right if mounted wrong (Or works differently) It makes sense to me to have the shaft side down so dirt and water run away from the seal where the shaft runs into the case. Mine mount that way (Smaller end down.) Anyways I have seen it in the instructions that cone with the shocks. Good question though, although the answer is with the manufacture of the shocks in question. MC
