I’ve searched for the “right” rear flood light option for a while now, and I think I finally found it.
$11 480lm LED dome light. It’s fully potted, and surprisingly high quality for the price. It’s BRIGHT. Floods a really big area around the back of the truck. I added a small toggle switch hidden in the first-aid recess.

It is tapped off of the rear 12v socket. You could also run it off the dome light, but it will “time out” with the interior lights. I wanted discrete control.

I did an LED strip light around the interior. Brighter solution than yours, but the trade off is it was a massive PITA to get them all to stay attached and also I risk knocking them off as I move gear in & out the back. But either way, light is desperately needed back there at night. I love my setup for camping or putting gear on/taking it off during night skiing sessions

I had run across your picture before, and considered something similar. But one of my goals was to flood the area/ground around the back of the truck, not just the cargo area. I also wanted something discreet and permanently mounted with kind of a halfway OEM look.

It lights up a BIG area in person. I honestly don’t think I’d want anything any brighter for this purpose.

That really does look like it works well!

Terrific mods guys!

For my purposes, I am very happy with just replacing the rear dome light bulb with an LED bulb.

If I am in Grizzly bear country, and let's say, I get back to the X in the dark. I do not want the X to flood the area with bright light as it would inhibit me from seeing anything.

For the same reason, I do not play the radio or music while getting changed (removing the waders), putting back gear, etc. These creatures can make a lot of noise. If you shut the hell up and listen.

An elderly gentleman from Alaska was killed by a sow with cubs on the Morice River a few years back at his truck. Would guess that his hearing was impaired or he failed to pay attention. I wonder if his peripheral vision was bad. From the grapevine, he was going on about not being concerned about bears.

Tragic. There are in fact very, very few violent encounters with Grizzly bears on BC coastal salmon streams, and Alaska appears to be similar. Unlike the Rocky mountains.
