I'm not really interested in doing this, im just curious if it could be done:

Since the rear axle of the OR's and the S MT's are a D44 variant, would it be possible to swap in a true D44 axle in its place fairly easily? I know nissan changed the spline count and probably a few other things about the rear axle, but if its based on the D44, it makes sense that you could put a real D44 in without much trouble

It would open up alot of options for lockers and possibly make a SPOA conversion available..

Cheaper to upgrade to an OR for a locker.

anything is possible, but you have to consider axle width, lug pattern, spring pad mounts, ABS, etc....

In the end it is not worth it.

Of course Cornick went from an S to or OR axle setup using PB's stuff from his sas.

With the Auto I think you need to swap both axels because of the gearing. As you have MT tho, I think you should be good with just the rear. Better hope a bunch more OR owners go the SAS route and replace their rears :)
