I know some people have removed the front fairing and had problems with the bolts not going back into place. I want to know, has anyone taken the ENTIRE rack off, and had the same problem with any other bolts? Or is this only a problem with the bolts on the fairing?

Also, has anyone removed the bolts for the fairing and NOT had a problem putting them back in place?

Finally, can the rack itself (feet and bars) be removed without removing the front fairing? I'm guessing no, but I haven't looked at the rack in detail in a long time.

I'm going to remove the roof rack to run wiring for lights, and want to know what to expect....thanks!

I had no problem, but I know people have.
I always do a turn in 1st and then go out, This loosens it up 1st.
That's only thing I can suggest. I really think an impact would help.
It kinda sucks we have to worry about it.

Wow, I just did this yesterday. I dropped some bolts that rolled down under the fairing...
tried to take the basket out but that's where I ran into a problem...
moved on to the fairing and it came off with no problem and it and the bolts all re-installed NO problem!

Back tothe prob with the basket; on the 2nd screw... once I finally got it to turn the whole damn nut and bolt turned so it wouldn't loosen. It's not a real nut on the backside so even if you can squeeze a wrench or pliers under/in there there's not enough of anything to grab on to.

Looks like if I ever really need to get it off I'll have to drill out the screw...
Anybody got any ideas.

Whoops I just saw that there's one stored with the jack. The bolts holding the actual rack down are incredibly tight. I think I'm going to skip trying to take the rack off, and just wire another way. I'm considering the MC-style hole through the roof, but just can't bring myself to drill through the roof! Perhaps I'll have to put up with a wire going from the top of the door to the roof.
