Hello. New to the forum.

I have a 2008 Xterra with approx 140k miles. Transmission went out about three years ago, and it had been parked since. I am looking to get rid of it, and am curious about what a fair asking price would be. Body is in decent shape. Interior is in decent shape. Located in western WV.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Its a mechanics special - so its very subjective because it depends on finding someone willing to fix it.

If its driveable at all - thats a big plus - because the prospective purchaser can see everything else works. If it hasn't moved in 3 years then the issue is it likely won't start, it likely won't drive, and the purchaser is basically going to pay you what they think its worth in parts and scrap at this point - which is anywhere from a few hundred bucks to maybe a couple grand - but I doubt that high number.

If you have any ability to get it running somewhat you will be much better off.

Doubt I want to put the time and effort into getting it drivable. I could get it to start and run (probably) with minimal effort. If this is the case, is $1000 reasonable?
How much gas is in the tank? After 3 years the gas has probably gone bad so you'll have a heck of a time getting it started or running smoothly.

Since you don't want to spend the time or effort to get it to run then I'd say "$750 as is." The price may be low but (a) you will be rid of it, and (b) someone will get a parts car or get it running.

One less thing to mow around. Sounds like a winner. Appreciate the advice.

Personally, I wouldn't do a single thing to it (maybe hose it off) and I'd start at a higher price to give yourself a little negotiating room. No matter what you list it at buyers will automatically negotiate you down. There are tons of mechanics out there that will snatch up vehicles with a bad transmission because they can swap in a new one in their spare time and flip it for cheap, I see it all the time. I'd start at $1800 and see what happens, worst thing that could happen is it sits for a week then you can lower your price. If you list it for 750, they'll offer 500 or less. I've stuck to my asking price on a few vehicles and had people walk away just because of that.

Fwiw, last September I bought a non running 06 with 175k for $1800 with the seller saying it just needed a fuel pump. Turned out it needed a lot more, but I was fine with that. I figured that even if it needed a new transmission it was still worth it.
