OK, The OEM fog lights on the vendor sites are something I'd like to purchase. Is it safe to say that an 06 S 4X4 will have the wires needed for hookup? I know this has been discussed before, but I'm still foggy. :banghead:

Thanks in advance for the help...

The wiring harness should be there on most, if not all new gen X's. I know there are other posts on this as I am also interested in installing the fog lamps. Might try and see if someone wants to sell theirs as a new kit costs at least $250. :blackeye:

The wiring should be there. The wiring in mine ('06 S) is bundled up right behind where the lamps go. Slide under there with a flashlight and look around, you should be able to see it.

When I bought my 05 X at the dealership it didn't have fog lights and I told the dealership that if i bought the X it would need the factory fogs. They said it couldn't be done untill i went over and popped the covers off. All X's should have those plugs...mine were taped to the frame.

The wires are there for sure, but if you want to use them you also need to get the turn signal lever with the fog light option, right? Or can you cut these wires somewhere and then run them to a new switch on the dash?

Fog Lights

Great set of photos and instructions on installing fog lights...my ponder is that the fog light kits, which include the stick, state that they are not for X's with day time running lights. Mine is a US model, imported into Canada, and post equipped with day time running lights, apparently using an aftermarket kit. Will this setup make it impossible to use the OEM stick?

Perhaps, but being able to use the OEM stick is pretty slick...much better installation-look than a non-matching switch on the dash. Will measure and partially dis-mantle to get a better handle on what will fit...thanks.

Well, the stock kit from yournissanparts is well worth the money. But if you find something that fits, make sure it won't melt the plastic and you will have to wire it up yourself as the stock wires use a relay and go int the steering column, the stock kit provides the stock type switch and all hardware. Seriously consider the stock kit. Be sure you tell them what year ya have and get the right stalk. MC

Typing just seems easier

1. Would the wires be there even on an X model?

I have an X model and I found the wiring harness so I say yes.

2. The wires are there for sure, but if you want to use them you also need to get the turn signal lever with the fog light option, right? Or can you cut these wires somewhere and then run them to a new switch on the dash?

You can cut the wires and mount a switch on the console. That has been done by someone on this board. You'll have to search foglights though because I can't remember the dude's name.

3. would any aftermarkt lights fit into those holes that can use the stock wiring harness?

I have yet to find any 3rd party vendors that have lights that can be mounted using the Nissan factory mounting points. A clean mount would consist of fabricating an extension to the bumper in the shape of a z so that the lights sit flush in the factory holes. Seems like a huge hassle to me.
