I'm wondering if it's possible to buy the steering wheel radio control part from a nissan dealer, add one of these PAC SWI-X units, and have steering wheel controls?

(Obviously with an AFTERMARKET head unit!!!)

Has anyone ever heard of this or seen it done?

I've been wondering the very same the last few days... It would be swell!

Do the contols for the wheel have their own harness, or does it plug into another harness we need?

It probably could be done. A majority of those devices work by measuring the resistance. So if you have a 100K resistance you increase volume. 50K you decrease.

Saw that - I had a Sony accessory similar to that years ago.. and hated it!
Years ago might be the key here. I would think technology has advanced on this. Also I am not a fan of sony. Either way, I don't have it so I can't speak for it. Maybe someone does have it and will chime in.

Steering wheel control

I was entertaining this feature also as I plan on purchasing the Pioneer DEH-P9800BT head unit. Only problem is theft. I'm originally from NYC, and items such as aftermarket steering controls are red flags. I would like it to be stock.
