I know there was a thread here somewhere about the optima battery but i just wanted to update everyone who might be interested in buying one. The people at 4wheel parts have in their computer system that the battery that is reverse poll (red on right and black on left) is discontinued. But it isnt! I had them call optima and find out for sure and they do have them. The part number is OPT 8040-218. That is for the yellow top. I dont know if it is a different part number for the red and blue.

34 is the model number (at least that is what was explained to me). It is not the part number. all optima batteries are 34 for vehicles (again that is what i understood when it was explained to me). So you cant just say I want a R34, there are different part numbers.

Dont flame me if im wrong.

34 is the group number, all automotive batteries are given a group number based on physical size and power ratings. R means it is a reverse-terminal battery, meaning the terminals are switched from what is considered the norm

Interesting. Did 4wheelparts give you a price?

better power output and if you are running alot of aftermarket stuff such as amps, compressors, KC lights, and especially a wench. It recovers from power drains alot faster and easier than a regular battery.

Anybody jump in if im wrong or i missed something!

The yellow top is a deep(er) cycle battery. It can take being drained and recharged without ill effect. The Red top how higher cranking amps which make it better for starting. To be honest, I have no idea why people put Red Top batteries in their off road vehicle.

Not all of us run a bunch of lights or a winch to drain the battery, so a Red Top works just fine...I will run my stock battery until it dies then get the red top. (or a yellow if I add a winch)

Thanks s_e_Xterra. Called Summit Racing today and gave them the part number. They had to call Optima, but eventually found it. Their price is $156. They can't drop ship from Optima, and Summit doesn't have any in stock, so it will take a couple of weeks to show up. Summit's part # is 8040-218ULT.

My local Sears sells Optima batteries for what it's worth. Even as light as the things are shipping is probably $30 or so.

I got a call from Summit customer service earlier today. They originally told me that the battery was on back order and couldn't be delivered until November, as a result of delays from Optima. Now they're telling me that Optima has pulled the part number and they can no longer fill my order.

Any new information? So what is next? I am considering the Exide Extreme Deep cycle battery the terminals are located in the center and an extension needs to be added to connect the terminal to that positive junction box. This is what I plan on trying soon.

Does anyone know if Optima makes a group size 34, reverse terminal yellow top? I remember seeing someone that had an R34 red top, and they were able to make everything fit (not quite perfectly, but it worked). The only real issue seems to be the 90 degree bend fuse box assembly that bolts up to the positive terminal. I'm sure that someone could find find aftermarket terminal post piece somewhere that could make it work...
