SCCX November 2006 Xcursion was to the area just outside of Joshua Tree National Park, CA, in an area filled with old gold mines. We had 8 Xterra's, a Frontier, and an SAS'd Frontier. 9 of us camped at a primitive site at one of the old mines.

Part 2

You may have noticed a distinct absence of Joshua Trees in our Joshua Tree trip. That was not lost on my wife, who reminded me that I had promised her she would see some trees on this trip. Day 1 we saw nothing taller than a scrub brush. On day 2 the group split, with most of them heading to Pinkham and Thermal Canyons for more rocks. Heather and I decided to drive out through Joshua Tree National Park, and see some trees.

JTNP has one of the best cholla cactus fields around. Being a National Park, they have a very nicely maintained walking trail through a portion of it.

I can tell you from (painful) personal experience, they are not kidding about being hazardous.
