oil filters, filter magnets etc

Ok so after doing my first oil change I have came up with some more questions.

Oil filters, in the manual it says to use only nissan filters (of course it does) but the reason is because they have a valve that keeps oil in the engine for cold starts. On :cough: XOC I read that all after markets that are designed for replacement will have the same properties and in fact my filter did mention this as one of the benefits. Is this truly the case that all filters for the X should have this valve/gasket?

Anyone use filter magnets? Do they help, are they worth it? Have heard good things about them but not sure as I haven't heard of many people using them.

Not necessarily true... your X will still run fine with one of the old style filters, however, you'd be crazy not to use one of these since these things stop the filtered particles from falling back into the oil system.
Yes, pretty much all filters out there now have them so you should be covered.

One of those things that sounds like a good idea, but the majority of the grit floating around in the oil is non-ferric (won't stick to a magnet). If there are metal shavings to be picked up, than your motor has problems that no magnet will fix.
