In case any of you thought my luck would change after spending $3k on a new furnace - it hasn't.

I've got Bray in the truck with me and it dies. We are 20 minutes from home. It just literally dies. It won't move, won't start, won't turn over - nothing. It just dies in the middle of the road while I was driving.

It's freaking 20 degrees outside and my truck decides to call it a day.

Thank God for Jay and him coming to me with his truck so I can keep Bray warm in the back of it.

So right now my truck is at Saratoga Nissan waiting to get looked at tomorrow.

Can we just get to 2008 at this point?

Sorry to hear about your old furnace. Welcome to home ownership. Next week, it'll be something else (hopefully less expensive). So you and your family have a new furnace to keep yourselves warm and cozy for years to come.

So lets see, you were only 20 mins. from home. Bray's safe and warm. A buddy came out to rescue you. You're home safe and sound. Your truck is in the shop for perhaps a warranty repair.

hmmm...sounds to me you're making out pretty good in 2007. Life is all about perspectives.

Look at the bright side: only one more bad thing and you're good for years. j/k
I had a string like that a few years back: furnace, water heater and flooded basement (from water heater and then leaking window well) That was a very expensive year.
But things get better, and soon this will all be a memory (or nightmare) that you survived with little to no bad effect.

hate to add but in perspective you are doing fine at least you can afford the repair without sacrificing food. and everyone is safe and healthy. right now one of my friends is in the hospital dying of cirrhosis. so it is all in perspective.

That is a good perspective guys and I appreciate it. But sometimes it's hard to see the good in things when things have been going downhill for my wife and I the last month.

It's one of those things that just kind of adds on top of other things...

Anyways, got a call from the dealership. Alternator seized up and fried. Thank God it's covered under warranty. He knows I don't have the money to buy a new one.

My alt started to crap out last year. The bearings were toast. I found a used one (with 12K miles) online and picked it up for $80 shipped. Not bad seeing as a new one was over $300. I now need to rebuild the old one incase it happens again (which I am sure it will). The bearings are $25 each (you need two).

You guys need to stay out of the dust/mud. If your going to play hard, got to expect to pay as well.

Usually a bad bearing grinding noise will be noticed when the bearings are in the process of failing; tire drone must be canceling out the warning signs.

No, my alt was changed before it died. It was LOUD and annoying. I carry it as a trail spare as it still works just has a ton of slop in the shaft. One of these days I'll buy the new bearings and rebuild it.
