Fun, fun, fun. Mechanical failures galore. Here is Bklyn.X, our event host. He said this route would have a pucker factor. Little did he know how much! hahaha...after we were sure he wasn't going to roll. More to come later.
ok...it's later.
Bklyn.X, the fearless leader of this event, conducting the raffle behind his tricked out 1st gen (2 speed t-case, front and rear lockers, etc etc).
Nine trucks (1st and 2nd gen Xs, one Toyota and a Suzuki Crew Cab pickup) in our group doing blues with Rook leading.
Chris924 up the first obstacle.
Chris924 straddling the first obstacle.
Just kinda hanging out here for a bit.
Taking a strap (as would quite a few today).
ducatidom also enjoyed the view from the top.
Two more sweet 1st gens.
Yours truly's X along side the Frog Hole.
Our group shortly before the first disaster.
Rook with a refreshment?
It's the black kool aid! No..actually this is ATF drained from Sleeper00's ailing X.
Lined up behind Sleeper00's sick (literally) X.
Disasters always draw a crowd.
Rook gives the disaster recovery plan briefing.
A diversion into black.
Chris924 spots Rook.
Nobody else chose this detour.
Back on the blues.
At his point, Rook gets called to attend to another disaster. We regroup with Bklyn.X as our leader.
This would prove to be a no go.
The rest of us bypassed. Bypasses, however, don't make for the best pics.
Bklyn.X heading for an interesting obstacle.
"Hmmm. This is a little more dug out than last time."
This won't work.
This really won't work.
Nobody has any really good advice here.
"Lock it up and gun it."
Yikes!
Dave tells Bklyn.X it's too late for the Depends.
The refrigerator repairman is called in to assist.
Doubled up the rope with a snatch block to relieve the straining winch. Dave hands me the snatch block and asks me if I know how to hook it up. I say "I read about it in a book."
Safe. We can all laugh now.
Meanwhile, back at the parking lot.
Hmmm..this doesn't look right. (BTW, not a Nissan part fail)
All in all, as Rook put it "a clusterf," but a fantastic time with great people for all, and some trips to the parts bins and junkyards for a few.
Thanks to the North East Xterra Club for hosting this event!
That's it folks. All these pics and more (too many to post) in high res for viewing, slideshow, sharing and/or downloading are here on my website.
