Sometimes went I turn right there is a single knock noise that feels like it's coming from under my feet. Anyone ever heard of this? It doesn't do it every time, so I feel like if I take it in, it probably won't make the noise.

No, I know the noise you are talking about though. Like at about 15mph. It's a different noise from that. Can happen any time, but I notice it more when I am coming home and doing turns in the neighborhood and into the driveway.

How many miles on it? Do you wheel it?

Have you checked the obvious things such as rub marks on the inner fender or anything like that? Maybe your inner fender is bulged out. I would also check your lug nuts to make sure they are tight (98ft-lbs).

Does it do it most often just after you start the car and drive away?

Are you blowing smoke? Never heard of such a thing. Of course I could be wrong.

Once you first here the ABS test noise, you'll pretty much hear it every time after that. No one riding with me though has ever made a comment about it.

My other noise continues, and, to be more exact, it occurs on right hand turns only. It makes the noise during the turn as soon as I let my foot off the brake.

Hmm, maybe your caliper is sticking.

kokopop, are you serious? You never heard the ABS self test when you first start out?
Yup. Honestly I don't pay much attention. but I am sure I will notice it now.

Hmm. now that I think about that is what the noise is. It always seems to happen when I perform my first shift from 1st to 2nd. I just assumed is was the tranny.

The ABS does the test right after you hit above 10 miles an hour which is usually when most people shift from first to second in a manual tranny.

Then that is the noise. Wow it is only 9:16 am and I have filled my quota for learning something new.

I hate to bring this thread up form the dead but I just started noticing this in my X tonight. When turning right while braking I get a noticeable sprung sound and can feel it in the pedal. At first I thought it was the traction control or abs because it is more noticeable when entering driveways or in bumpy turns. Did any body ever figure out what this is?

sounds like your abs or slip coming on.

it will sound like a grinding noise and you can feel it through the brake pedal. that is totally normal, especially on quick cornering / loss of traction situation, like going up a driveway on a tight turn.

if you get the chance, take the x down a deserted street and slam the brakes at about 30mph or so. you will hear the same sound as your ABS kick in.

I have a similar noise in my new X. It will warm up a little and as soon as I start to drive off I get a pop/ping sound like I ran over a tin can. Is this the ABS check noise? Its actually quite loud in the colder morning air than it is in the afternoon once it has warmed up outside.
