No light under the hood???

And loosely related to my other post (http://thenewx.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1791), what's up with there being no light under the hood?!? I haven't really realized it until just recently when I was under the hood after dark and couldn't believe Nissan didn't give us a light :sad3:

I'm a little surprised that no one's written up a mod for a hood light at this point :idea1:

I just carry a small maglite in my car. Most of the time I need to check other places as well as the hood. $10 "mod" works everywhere on the car.
yea, what can you see with a factory light anyways? Buy a 12V fluorescent hook it up and keep it under there and you will see what you want. Hummmm Harbor Freight tools has em. MC

walmart carries some magnet litghts in the car section.
I carry a BIG mag myself!
i carry a flashlight all the time also...

but still, it is another place nissan cheaped out.
I carry a LED small flashlight with a head strap. It lights up what I am looking at and leaves my hands free.

LED Flash light. Get one. Works great.
i remember seeing a light mod for jeeps, ill see if we cant yank it.
I was considering getting something like this:

The bulb is on a pull out fixture that I think has a magnetic base. It would be very simple to wire up, but I looked under the hood, and I couldn't find a mounting point I liked.
Yea that is cool I tried to fix one that would no longer retract on a Jeep. e
It had a special spot it mounted to on the jeep. Pretty flimsy but a hell of a good Idea. I might make one and post it in a how to someday. Better stronger more reliable and brighter. MC
Oh yeah, I keep a couple of Mag lights in the cabin. My dad would be ashamed if I didn't keep something as basic as a flashlight and Leatherman in the truck at all times :cheese: . It would just be nice to be able to prop up the hood without having to hold the mini-Mag light in my mouth while I'm doing it. Plus there are other times when you need both hands to do something and you can't really hold your flashlight.

Although that head-mounted light would help out with times like that. It would also be good for changing a tire in the dark or maybe even crawling around underneath the truck.

I was also hoping that someone would have some ideas for a work-around like the two suggestions above. And that got me wondering if a hood light from either a Pathfinder or Frontier would work in our X's (assuming that they actually do have a hood light).

And here is some more of that same item / idea so you can work hands free under the hood, under the Xterra, changing tire(s) at night, etc. . . . .

Probably more expensive than you want but a true headlamp not only will help you work on the X, If you get stuck out at night and need to see down the trail as you are hiking out, (You know doing a little route finding) you'll be happy with a product that can reach out and light up the world.

I use this for climbing at night, and as back up in my console at all times.

$44.95USD seems a bit high for the Petzl Tikka XP headlamp, however it's listed at $45USD at REI but is $45CAD at MEC. Another option is the Tikka Plus at $33CAD (which is what I have).
