Well it’s time to replace the stupid mistake of straight piping the X. The stock muffler got cut out and just welded a pipe on. The y pipe is still in there as well. I am sick and tired of the drone and need to get a fix. I would love to get a nice sound out of it but without a v8 I am thinking that it may be better to go back to stock. Anyone have recommendations, possibly better mufflers/cutting out y pipe, without having to pay the 500 bucks for oem. Thanks.

I would have figured an OEM exhaust was closer to $1000.

For an inexpensive/quiet exhaust I would go with one from Walker.

Should a slightly more performance exhaust be to your liking , look at what Dynomax offers.

If you can purchase a new OEM exhaust for $500, I would suggest doing such.

I recently had to replace my muffler and the guy at the shop recommended this one:

Tire Wheel Car Land vehicle Vehicle

it’s a two-in-one-out Pathfinder muffler, so factory Nissan. Not sure what year/model exactly though. No drone at all, but it has a very slight deeper tone than the factory Xterra. And it gets rid of the y pipe, so less restriction. Before this one I had a magnaflow and it didn’t drone that bad, but bad enough that I eventually got tired of it. Cheers.

I think some members run the Magnaflow 12580. It has similar dimensions as the stock muffler. It is slightly louder than stock. If you want to keep the noise/drone down with the Magnaflow then some members install a Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator. Hope this helps

Well it’s $500 for the muffler which is the only thing I deleted so expensive enough that I’d rather find a different one, hopefully for cheaper.

I saw some people did this. Where would I find such muffler? I’m guessing just online buy it oem but the cheaper the better for me as I’m still in college with no job and don’t have access to a shop/welder I could do it myself on.

Definitely helps. I’d just hate to get it installed to still be too much drone and waste the money. Have any of those guys posted the sound clips on the interior?

The shop I went to had the muffler, so I did not have to source it. Sorry I know this doesn't help much.

I don't have any sound recordings, but I definitely don't have any drone. I think it is just a bit "deeper", if that makes sense, when you hit the gas hard, passing lane, going up hill in the mountains...at cruising speed you can't hear it. I think the quietest option will be the factory Xterra exhaust though.

^ above comment was meant for the Pathfinder exhaust, sorry.

I had the magnaflow 2 in 1 out. not sure if it's the same part number listed above. And to me it had too much drone and that is why I went with the pathfinder. The main reason was to be able to keep the 2 in 1 out setup and not have to go back to a Y pipe. I did not have a resonator installed though.
