Hello all! I thought a little introduction was in order. My name is Chuck . I bought my 2010 Xterra SE 4x4 about a month ago. It’s my 15th vehicle over the last 30 years and 9th truck. Let’s just say I’m a car junkie and tend to get bored with my ride after a couple years. I’m a mechanical engineer with an MBA and work as a training manager at a machine manufacturing company. I’m also a musician - been playing guitar for almost 35 years – hard rock is my thing. Divorced, 2 kids and a stupid cat too (don’t ask).

I raced MX and was into the offroad bike and quad thing for most of my life. Too old and beat up now, plus I’m still alive (I think), so back to the 4 wheeling thing I go.

My plans for the X are simple, as I’ve done far too much modding in the past and don’t want the reliability hit that major mods bring with them. A basic 2-2.5” spacer/AAL lift, skids, tires, front bumper/lights and maybe an exhaust. That’s about it.

My first plans are for new tires in a couple months. The truck came with BFG Long Trail’s and I’ve narrowed my replacement choices to: BFG A/T’s, Duratracs or Silent Armors in either 275 or 285/70/17’s LT versions. Skids will come after that, then the lift. It’s my daily driver and I put about 20k miles a year on my rides.

Past rides:
’72 Mustang 351C, 84 Toyota ExCab 4x4, 89 F150 4x4, 88 Mustang 5.0, 94 Explorer 4x4, 98 Durango 4x4, 2000 ExCab Silverado 2x, 2002 ExCab Silverado 4x4, 2004.5 Dodge 2500 Cummins Quad Cab, 2005 Colorado Crew Cab 2x (worst vehicle I’ve ever owned), 2005 Silverado Crew Cab 2x, 2007 Dodge Charger, 2011 Honda Fit (please don’t judge me!), 2008 BMW 335i (best/fastest car I’ve ever owned) and now the Xterra.

See you all in the threads.

First of all welcome. Secondly all those awesome cars then the honda fit...haha. not judging though. I like the duratracs. Just got em bout a month ago and there pretty quiet for 285. I can barely hear them and I've got a 3 in lift.

The Fit was a temporary ride when I was between jobs and needed a cheap, economical little car. 33 mpg and believe it or not, it's huge inside. I know it doesn't look like it, but you'd be amazed at how much you can "fit" in that little thing. Drove like crap on the highway - if someone sneezed in the next zip code, the wind would make it shift half a lane. Owned it for 11 months.

On the other hand, the 335i was amazing. I'd still have it if I didn't want to camp, 4 wheel, tow... 0-60 in 4.7 sec. 1/4 mile in 13.5 sec. Stopped and turned like it was glued to the road. Quiet, smooth... The worst part was the repair costs. $1000 for f/r brakes. $100 oil changes. $250 tires (I blew through a rear set in 13k miles!) AND everyone thinks you're an arrogant arse for driving one.

Greetings from Luke AFB!

Quite a sampling of trucks you've owned!
I'm never satisfied with what I'm driving...

I'd like to find something that wheels like a Jeep tows like a diesel and turns/stops/accelerates like a BMW... not likely to find that combo. :(

Welcome from Vancouver BC. New as well and looking at same tire upgrade as you. I have had the Silent Armours on my 2002 and they have been good, but looking to add new tires on my new X and came down to same choices. Let us know what you end up with.
